Hey all, I was wondering if any of you have a Trilogy saddle?
and what you think of it

I have a Verago and my horse and I are very happy with it. Of course, I have it checked and, if necessary, have the flocking adjusted twice a year.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Trilogy and so does my horse
BTW - I also have a Verago and I got it used at a great price. Debbie Witty came and fitted it to my horse, reflocked it and we are happy campers.
The Trilogy has used saddles listed by owner:

I just bought one recently for my young horse (the “Debbie McDonald” model). Very nice saddle and the fitter did a great job of changing the flocking for my horse. The fitter came to our barn, let me ride in several models. Once I decided which style I liked best, I managed to find a used one for sale on their website.
After a few people in my barn sat in my saddle, they decided they wanted one too! So now there are 3 people who own them where I board.
I have two Veragos. Love them love them love them.
I ride in the Trilogy Debbie McDonald. Love it, horse loves it.
Pros: I have a great saddle fitter that does an excellent job keeping it in shape, very nicely designed saddle
Cons: my saddle is 4 years old, and the color is fading from the leather. Its only ridden in 1xday and stored out of sunlight, so I find that surprising. Also, a friend’s Trilogy’s tree broke literally weeks after the 5 year warranty was up. Had to fight tooth and nail to get them to fix it. Apparently, saddles are only supposed to last 5 years now. Ha ha, tell that to my 20+ year old Crosby event saddle!
JumasMom,
I had the leather fade on one of my saddles. The rep told me that it wasn’t uncommon in CA and HI. One of my friends actually had the rep re-dye her Trilogy for $100, it looks pretty much like new.

Not unreasonable if saddle is used on multiple horses or stored where sun light reaches, BUT if saddle is used on a single horse & stored out of the sun, the leather should no more fade in California, Arizona, Hawaii etc than it should mold in Washington, Oregon etc …
After 20 years most saddles have faded but if less than 10, the leather & dye should be wearing evenly.
ummmmm… Im kind of leary of the saddles now…
only last 5 years? leather color fading?
if im going to spend almost 4K I guess I just want more out of it…
Unfortunately many saddle companies have opted for the 5 or 10 year warranty on trees nowadays
Manufacturing defects pertaining to stitching & leatherwork often are only warrantied for 1 - 3 years :sigh:
Companies that do (still) offer the traditional “lifetime” warranty on the tree are often difficult to actually contact or slip out of the warranty clause if you are not the “original owner” or cannot find the original sale receipt …
When considering used saddles, it’s good sense to have the tree inspected - except the panels need to be dropped for that & then you’re dependent on the saddler being able to return the saddle to it’s original configuration …
my daughter loves her trilogy. More importantly, her horse adored the trilogy better than any others we tried. Don’t know what was different but it’s been great.
Love my Trilogies! I have 2 Veragos - one of which is going on 7 years old. No fading and no tree problems. I ride one or two horses almost daily in it with no issues. My horses also all love their saddles and I love my rep!
I have the Debbie Special. It is 1 1/2 years old and looks like new. I do clean it after every use. I tried many saddles of many brands I love it. FYI: I also have a Tad Coffin A52. The tree spread and was replaced(for free) this year. So even the expensive saddles can have issues.
I have an Amadeo Elite. Love it. Horse loves it.
To be more specific, what I really like about it is the lack of “stuff” under my thighs, so I can actually feel my horse. I like the deep seat and the moderate knee rolls. It all seems to be placed correctly for my body type. Horse apparently also likes the shape of the horse/human interface, and that it fits him beautifully.
I’ve had mine for 5 years. Local rep is a very good fitter, so we usually see her once a year, (and I know she watches her clients at shows and clinics to see if there is something that she thinks needs addressing…) My leather is fading a bit, but not more than I would expect on a 5 year old saddle in a very extreme climate. It is ridden in pretty much every day and isn’t babied, but not overly abused. it’s the Elite leather, which broke in very quickly, and is super soft and comfortable, but is more fragile than the regular leather–which was explained to me when I bought it.
Like any saddle in this price range/type, I think the biggest defining factor in how well you are going to like it is how good the local rep/fitter is.
I love my Trilogy, great product and customer service, several people at our barn have them.

My issue with a Trilogy Debbie McDonald, referred to in an April 25 post about fading) was satisfactorily resolved by Debbie Witty. The problem was not a broken tree but some broken rivets, and my warranty had expired 5 months before the problem occurred. After some discussion, Trilogy extended my warranty and sent my Debbie McDonald saddle to the repair facility in Massachusetts. Although examination there found (and confirmed what my instructor and the saddle fitter believed) that the tree itself was OK, Trilogy sent to England and paid for/installed a new tree. New billets were added, and the the saddle was returned to me several months ago. Sorry that the previous post lacked some details. I am once again very happy with the saddle, and that it was fixed at no cost to me.
Love my Amadeo Elite, horse likes it too. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one, however I’d probably get the Verago next time (fitter didn’t have it to try).
Had a Trilogy. Did not love it. Big knee rolls, very heavy and bulky, huge pommel, don’t understand why the panels have to be so thick… I ended up selling it. Not for me or my horse.
Not sure why such an old thread got resurrected but I agree with you. I loved it at first because of its deep squishy seat and bulk - it’s a lot of saddle and I felt very safe, secure and comfortable in it, sort of like a comfy couch. But as my riding improved that became more of a drawback than a positive - I really prefer to have a much closer feel of my horse and a less restrictive seat.
They are gorgeous and beautifully made but no everyone’s cup of tea
Which model was it that was cushy? I’m still riding in my Veragos and one of the things I love about them is the rather flat, reining saddle-like seat.
