Trip To Camarilo CA - Any horsey things I could check out?

Visiting my sister in-law this coming Sept. She lives in Camarilo.
I would love to visit Varian Arabians. I believe it’s within a few hours drive north of Camarilo - and according to their website they do conduct tours during the week.

Can anyone suggest anything else that would be of interest + horse related?

My uncle lives in Camarillo and every time we go down to visit I have to stop by the Dressage Extensions showroom and shop. They are about ten minutes from Camarillo, in Sommis. The sad news was recently shared that Dover has bought them out, so I don’t know how that will impact their showroom.

Jan Ebeling is based in Moorpark, which is a also close by. As is Hilda Gurney. I don’t know if it is true, but someone told me in 2008 that you can call ahead and get tours of Ebeling’s place.

Camarillo is also home to to the Camarillo White Horse, which my uncle is constantly sending me articles about. If I remember correctly, Adolpho Camarillo created the “breed” and his granddaughter or great-granddaughter started the work to bring them back. I think I remember reading in one of those articles that they now have a few White Horses living on the estate, which can be toured.

A non-horsey thing that is well worth the effort is a visit to the Getty Villa in Malibu/Pacific Palisades. Unbelievable. It is free, too. You need a reserved, timed entry ticket and you have to pay for parking.

We really enjoy our visits. If you like fish (fresh and sea), try a restaurant called Lure.

Depending on the date, you could also check out some shows. I’m a dressage rider and there are three 4* rated venues in Moorpark alone, with a good likelihood of seeing Jan, Hilda, Sabine Schut-Kery, Charlotte Bredahl and other team members competing.
