Triple Crown 2021

On one FB thread I likened it to an Olympic athlete getting a hypothetical corticosteroid injection/breathing treatment in the ER for a bad case of the flu. Let’s say it was 3 weeks prior to the Olympic trials, for the sake of argument. The athlete is probably going to test positive and unless they had a medication waiver, they’re DQ’d. The IOC does not care that the athlete was sick and not trying to cheat. It’s the responsibility of the competitor (and the coaches) to know exactly what is being prescribed and if there’s a chance it will test.
Because the horses can’t take that initiative, it’s the trainer’s job. ESPECIALLY on the eve of competition.
And I am sorry, it’s just really poor form to blame everyone from the feed man up to the assistant trainer. If nothing else, it’s rude.

I didn’t see the facebook stuff or his TV interview (just read about it) but he now looks like a fool because he didn’t have a clue what meds were used on a horse he had entered in the Derby.

That is negligence, especially since he’s had several med violations now.
Come on Bob,do what most high level horsepeople do.
Test your hay, don’t allow grooms to pee in you fancy racehorse’s stalls, don’t let your injured employees with medication patches bridle your horses without washing their hands, read the label on the ointment, yada yada yada.
He has had plenty of time to tighten up his stable management.

Bloodhorse: Racing rules require the trainer to be absolutely responsible for the horse’s condition on race day, meaning they need to be aware of the drugs administered to their horse relative to the rules.
We all know this, and so does Bob! I am not buying the ointment story.

Someone on FB suggested naming a 2yo “Read The Label” and sending it to BB.

I don’t think I will watch the Preakness live on TV. Won’t be able to stand the coverage, which will be just reiterating for the masses what has been discussed here and over on the other thread.

Such a feel-good story (the return to racing after the COVID shutdown, the $1,000 yearling winning the big one)–all gone to h***.

Ill be watching the Post Parade so I can hear how loud the Boo’s are from the crowd. Funny that Medina Spirit is still the morning line favorite and his ownership has indicated that both of Bob’s horses will be sent to the lead. Here’s to hoping someone foils that plan. I think it’s an interesting field.

Just a guess but I doubt if there will be any booing. Guess we will see soon enough, I will be sure to report back Saturday evening.

Just like to clarify one thing I keep reading over and over. Bettors DO NOT give back money paid out on their winning tickets. There is no uprising of angry bettors forced to give back. Anywhere. Because they keep it once the results are declared official and its paid out.

Conversely, holders of Mandaloun tickets don’t get additional monies for winning if Medina Spirit is DQd and Mandaloun is declared the winner.

The whole ‘official’ part of the race results is for the bettors. The actual race winner, as we have seen can be changed at a later date when it comes to purse monies and race placings from a pedigree perspective.

This handicapper is upset. https://spectrumnews1.com/ky/louisville/news/2021/05/10/horse-race-fans-react-medina-spirit-failed-drug-test

Look at those white legs, and that splash on the belly! OK, so his rider fell off, but LOOK at that white!!

I had heard Baffert say it was a cream to treat fungus with the steroid in it. Well, you would never put a steroid on a fungal infection! Does he think we are stupid! They need to suspend him in California pending investigations and not let the assistant trainer run the horses.

That was a bizarre fall. He just.fell.off. Weird.

That was a weird fall. Did you also read in Japan if the rider comes off, there are no outriders so the horse gets to play the ‘yay, I’m free, I’m free’ game until the jockey can catch up to him.

Yes, I read the whole article.

I just don’t get why he fell off. Nothing happened to unbalance the horse. That was really weird.
It almost looks as though he became dizzy or faint.
Glad everyone was OK.

I hadn’t noticed that the France Go De Ina is a paint.

He’s not a paint. He’s a TB. :slightly_smiling_face:

It almost looked like he decided eh, I’ll do an emergency dismount right here. Like he took the time to get his foot out of the stirrup and just bailed over the side of the horse. Super curious as to what happened there!

That’s what it looked like to me. Just a dismount in mid stride. He kicked the stirrup off it looked like.
