Triple Crown Frequent Buyer Question

I was gifted the VISA Debit card from this program (by a COTH Friend )
Today I thought I’d try it out. Nothing on the TC website re: this program says purchases made must be TC products & their tollfree # is not available on weekends.
Website does say purchases will be deducted from card value. Duh.
Went to my local feedstore & the card was declined for a purchase less than card value.
I will call TC Monday & ask what’s up.
But has anyone else had this problem redeeming the card?

I stoped feeding TC last year but I think the card has to be activated? Is it maybe not activated? It was a simple process, if I remember correctly.

On the card, they should have a number and website link to activate your card through Visa. I chose to use the website. You have to put in the code on the card and then set your own pin.

Card has been activated, PIN set, card signed.
So?
Monday I should have my answer :crossed_fingers:

There’s definitely no restriction on what you can buy with the card. If you call the number, what does it say the balance on the card is? Should be $25 if none has been used.

I too had no restrictions. But it seems the frequent buyer programs change and go away altogether so often.

@Libby2563 When I called to activate the card I found out the balance.
My feedstore purchase was well under that amount. The expiration is 2023.
My thought is maybe the card has to be used at a dealership who stocks TC products?
I’ll post back Monday after I talk to a person at TC.

I would suspect the issue is with your feed store not wanting to give you cash back.

That’s weird. Honestly I would suspect a random glitch in the feed store card system. I’ve never had an issue using mine anywhere. It’s just a regular debit card.

@stb I never intended to get cash back. Just use part of the balance on the card.
I’ve done business at this small, employee-owned & operated feedstore for 17yrs.
Once left without something I bought on a Friday & they held it for me over the weekend.
I didn’t remember until after they closed on Saturday, they are not open Sundays.
One owner is also my farmsitter & I had to tell him I would pay for this service. He was going to do it for free, finally agreed to a small fee & I need horses fed 2X daily.

@Libby2563 Tomorrow should clear up the mystery :smirk:

Gift cards can be quirky. I suspect the issue is going to end up being with the card itself, or maybe the merchant’s terminal. I’ve used many VISA gift cards from the TC program at all kinds of places. Never on purchasing feed. Good luck on your quest for answers!

Speaking w/TC Customer Svc now…
Rep verified card as activated & balance available. She suggested feedstore run as Credit - even though card is marked “Debit”
I will test that today & report back.
Wish me Luck & 50# Whole Oats :four_leaf_clover: :ear_of_rice:

From my college retail experience with Visa Gift Cards: sometimes we had to manually enter the amount to charge on the card, almost like we were doing a split payment. We couldn’t just have the customer run the card from the card terminal. Hope you get it figured out.

@Mulligan314 That could be the problem.
Card failed again at the feedstore :persevere:
But they sent me home with 50# oats “pay next time you come in”.
Which is just one reason why I wanted to give them the business.

As a test, I tried the card at a nearby Subway. No problem.
I won’t torture the feedstore peeps again.
Hope the card works at TSC :crossed_fingers:

I’ve had zero issues redeeming those. Sometimes with those cards the purchase price has to be less than the amount on the card, or they have to manually put in how much to charge the card. My FSA health care card gets declined if you try to run it for a payment that is more than the amount left on it. It’s just a matter of what kind of system the shop uses.

In other news, I have 11 proofs of purchase. It takes 12 to redeem, and my horse moved to a new barn that supplies it’s own feed, and it’s not TC.

I will take them off your hands !

I have had the Triple Crown cards be quirky before. Sometimes they go through as a debit card (like today at my grocery store), sometimes they have to go through as a credit card (had to do that at a grocery store in another state), sometimes they have to get put through manually (when I tried using multiple TC cards at Walmart), and sometimes they get just plain rejected (Target!).
Just keep trying - like you found at Subway, sometimes they work!

Once activated, you can go to the website to see the remaining balance on the card. I have to either write it on the card, or put a sticker on the card to remember what’s left on it.

I’d be happy to send you one more. I go through so much Senior and the program is capped at a certain dollar number. I’ll have plenty to spare.

I have been doing this since last year, cards always come quickly, I activate them, then give them back to my feed store toward more feed. I’ve also used them on Amazon, etc. I have not had any trouble spending the money on them.

Make sure when you try to use it at the feed store they enter the amount of the card. If they don’t, it will decline it.

I also got a card a few months back that didnt have the activation sticker on it. All of them I had received before did, so I assumed it was already activated. Till I got to the feed store and it was declined.
