Triple crown lite vs balancer

How would you decide which one to pick?
I have 2 horses on triple crown lite mainly because my tractor supply doesn’t carry the balancer but I can find it elsewhere if I really needed to.
Horse 1 is in no work, has skin allergies, and is an easy keeper that I’m trying to keep trim.
Horse 2 is in light work and actively gaining weight after being neglected. She went from a body score of 3 to approaching 5 on a diet of hay and mineral balance with alfalfa pellets and ulcer treatment. Adding the lite in place of balancing just minerals is adding more calories feeding 2lbs per day.

How big of a difference is the 2? Obviously protein is higher on the RB but :woman_shrugging:

Not quite an answer to your question…I fed TC Senior and Balancer for a long time. My horses got very fussy about eating the balancer (and they are all good eaters). Recently I went through and compared balancers again (since we also had to special order the TC Balancer in the area). I decided to try Tribute Wholesome Blends Balancer…which I can order from Chewy for less than the local store in terms of cost. My horses LOVE the Tribute balancer…and it just looks/smells nicer and had a better nutrient profile for what my horses needed. The bags that have come in from Chewy have been nice an fresh too.

Just a thought it might be worth looking at other brand balancers out there!

The difference is the minimum feeding rate and calorie content as-fed. 1lb per 500lb body weight for Lite (with a max of 2lb/500lb), 1lb per 1000lb for Balancer (generally a max of 2lb here).

2lb of Lite is more calories than 1lb of Balancer

The protein difference isn’t significant (as-fed)

Hey thanks!!! That’s a good idea! I like how it looks especially for the cost!

And Chewy gives you a 5% discount and free shipping if you put it on autoship.

My horse with skin allergies is on Tribute, after having difficulty getting TC Balancer Gold regularly. He thinks it tastes better, it has no added iron, and it is actually less dense than the TC, so it weighs more like a full quart per pound which also makes him happier since he’s on a diet, so his meal doesn’t look quite so sad. You may still want to mix it with something else for more calories for the one you need to put weight on.
