Triple Crown races 2025

Wow! Nitrogen, first time on dirt, ran beautifully. Lovely filly.

I love that they are actually talking about the horses instead of random hodgepodge

It’s great. I hope it’ll continue when the coverage moves from Fox Sports to Fox.

It should be the same coverage by the same people just that big Fox is carrying a NASCAR Truck race that is running over…they are in overtime right as In type this. And just now, another caution so another delay in full filling whatever obligation that contract requires them…like staying in the air with this until the checkered flag drops. Then they flip over to FS1 and the app with the same coverage.

Glad Patch Adams is back, easy win.

Think Journalism and Sovereignty are pretty close but if I had to pick one give Sovereignty a slight edge. No idea how Crudo will stack up but he could get a check in here and might e worth a few bucks in an exacta with the other two.

Have enjoyed the telecast today, well done and informative. Yes they talked to some celebrities but those were also horse owners not airheads.

I think the reason they are so good is they are racing people, not sports people. They know what is important and what isn’t. They know what we want to hear.

Nearly forgot about the Belmont, tuned in just in time for the race itself it seems.

Wanted Journalism to win this one but Sovereignty got it. Journalism 2nd.

Bummed Baeza didn’t do better, but what a nice race for Sovereignty.
(Some) People are really going to loose their minds over him skipping the Preakness now.

I wonder if we could have had a triple crown winner. But amazing race! He knew what the horse needed

Me sentimental pick was heart of honor

I wish the networks would learn how to mix sound at an equine event! This is hardly the first time I couldn’t hear anything said, even the race call.

I do wish he hadn’t skipped (was there a particular reason he skipped?) b/c I feel like the Derby winner should always try for a Triple Crown but I also don’t mind the skip b/c I like Journalism. Even if I mostly like Journalism b/c of the name.

I’m glad they all came home safe. Good job to Sovereignty. I was rooting for Journalism or Baeza.

I could probably do the research, but figured I’d ask here first

Is this is the first time the top 3 from the Derby finished in the exact same order in the Belmont?

Equibase chart lists the quarter times as:
23.42, 24.18, 24.60, 24.50, 23.99
Pretty impressive last quarter.

But we can never know if S would have run the same race had he not shipped to Saratoga instead of Pimlico and deciding in favor of the horse if there was any doubt how much that Derby took out of him was the right choice.

We also do not know how J would have run if he had that rest break instead of the Preakness. IMO J looked like he tried to hook up as he was passed in the Derby, did not seem to want to dig in so much today.

Prefer not to question decisions made to insure the continued health of any competition horse rather then wonder what might have been if they had competed despite doubts of it being the best thing for that horse.

Sovereignty skipped the Preakness because his connections (Godolphin and Bill Mott) don’t believe in bringing horses back on a two week turnaround. Kudos to them for caring more about the horse’s wellbeing than the overblown Triple Crown hype.

I give more credit to Mott about caring about horse welfare than I do Godolphin. About their big time TB race horses, yes Godolphin cares, but Al Maktoum has been previously suspended by the FEI for medication violations for riding an Arabian horse he rode in Endurance races, that failed the drug tests (his excuse was that he was the ruler of Dubai and he was too busy and couldn’t be bothered to take responsibility for the horses he rode.) He was suspended anyway, even though his wife Princess Haya of Jorden was the head of the FEI at that time.

The entire UAE NF was suspended at one point in time from competing in any FEI competitions because of their egregious doping and abuse of their endurance horses.

The FEI has no jurisdiction over TB racing so his TB horses were never affected.

I have problems with seeing Al Maktoum as a good guy, even though does well by his TBs, he has not shown the same care for his Endurance horses.

I have to say, I am horrified by his human rights record and find his treatment of his (ex) wife Princess Haya and his daughters, unacceptable, as does the court in England. His wife escaped, but still requires security in Britain , unfortunately his daughter was forcibly returned (kidnapped) to him and has not been allowed to speak on her own behalf.

Everyone has their foibles, but such behavior as his, to me, does not come under the “foible” category.

Anyone can be a weird person, and that’s ok, but I personally draw the line at what he has caused to happen to his poorest citizens, to his female relatives, and to his “endurance” horses.
