Triple Crown races 2025

I just read a story on Chunk of Gold. Bargain basement price and he’s shaping up to be a nice runner. Maybe not in the same class as some of the others, but as his trainer says, in a field of 20 anything can happen.

My favorite 3yo so far is the filly Good Cheer (Medaglia D’Oro- mare by Street Sense) trained by Brad Cox, 6 for 6 so enough exposure to deal with Oaks Day (I hope). BC is on hot streak so far this year too.

This filly is also a beauty, she is black with white trim. ( yes I know its really seal brown but it looks black flying down the stretch). Nice when they are pretty on top of fast. Have not decided on a back up yet should she not make it to the gate.

For me, the colts are all over the place and many still on the green side. Will wait to pick a favorite until after the Bluegrass. If not later as there are usually drop outs due to illness or injury.

I like the look of Disrupter. He just came on my radar, we’ll see what he does in his next race.
The pic is from a Bloodhorse article on three colts trying for Derby points.

Sandman looked great. And zig-zagged all over the stretch, probably ran more than a mile and one-eighth.

Comment in the official chart about Cornucopian: “suicidal duel, weakened”. True that.

Into Mischief has two for the derby. (points wise, who knows what will happen until the actual day). I never really paid much attention to him when he was running.

Only 6 start, 3 at 2, 3 at 3. 2 Grade 1 wins, but no classic wins. However, as a stallion… :open_mouth:

Did anyone watching racing Saturday catch what was being said and/or the graphic shown.
I think it was just before the FL Derby.

They were talking about pedigrees & how a specific cross, it was ??? (I don’t remember, maybe Tapit) over Distorted Humour breedings had a successful outcome (I think) 25% or something like that.
It was a fairly high % success rate.

I’ve been unable to find anything online, but may not using the right mix of key words.

The Queens M G, who was pulled up during the Gulfstream Oaks, will undergo knee surgery & has been retired

Sad for her.

But looking at her race history it still bugs me that we put so much pressure on these young horses to race back to back to back. She was a bargain basement buy of $3,500 as a yearling selling to Acevedo who she raced under once on 4/7/24, winning her debut before being sold and moving to Saffie Joseph.

Would be interesting to know if the bargain basement price on her was due to any preexisting conditions that might have led to the breakdown

As a two year old she raced the following schedule

4/7/2024
6/6/2024 (Under Saffie Joseph)
7/11/24
8/4/24
8/31/24
11/2/24

2025 season:
2/1/25
3/1/25
3/29/25

Journalism in the Santa Anita was pretty impressive. In the Bloodhorse article the jockey referenced his size several times. How big is that horse?

Rodriguez in the Wood was also a standout under Mike Smith. Rather delicious irony his trainer elected to stay out west with his bigger guns (and needier clients?) who ran last and second to last in a 5 horse field and who I sincerely hope are OK after sub par efforts. Horses cant pick their humans.

The only reason I’ll be rooting for Rodriguez, is because of the Authentic connection.

Dam…

That’s too bad.

Oh this makes me want to cry. Such a gorgeous, talented, and beloved horse. His connections must be devastated.

Yes to that. I originally thought Mike Smith “walked the dog”, slowing the pace so the horse would be fresh for the finish. Looking at the chart, not so much. Quarters went in 23+, 24+, 23+, 24+. Mile in1:35+, mile and one-eighth in 1:48+. He ran fast.

Seems like a nice horse.
