Ugh. Damn laminitis!
And cellulitis is no freaking joke, either. Poor boy.
I think Magnitude (#16 above) is out, injured.
Yep.
If left up to Brian, Owen Almighty won’t run in the KD either & target the Pat Day Mile, which is a much better option for him IMO.
I heard Flood Zone is out as well, but haven’t seen anything official yet.
His comment about her dam is pretty funny. “She can’t out run you or me.”
For some reason I really like Coal Battle. Not saying I think he’ll win, I just like the look of him and how he runs. I’m also starting to like Journalism a lot.
I’m relatively new to racing so don’t know how to judge, but is this year’s crop of 3-year-old colts better than average? Have not really paid too much attention in the past, except for maybe one or two who kept making the news.
I’d say better this is a better crop than some previous years. A number of great races leading up to Derby. I really like Sandman; I think Rodriguez looks killer last race (Mike Smith helps A LOT there–wonder if he’ll ride the Derby?). Coal Battle is handsome and warming up. Watched good races from Publisher and American Promise.
Super devastated about Ferocious–he really was my fav up to this point.
But yeah, I think there are some interesting options for the Derby this year.
Some years it seems as though there are only a couple of really outstanding horses, but this year I like at least ten!
Don’t know if “better” is the right word when comparing one year’s crop to another. There is no dominant superstar this year rather a number of quality youngsters maturing into very good racehorses who also need a little racing luck…some need a lot of it. And that is IF they stay sound.
Latest update.
River Thames is out.
Built’s connections are still on the fence about running in the KD.
Not about a race but about a face. Sandman has a huge white face! I bet he was stunning last year. And as someone who now looks at whorls, he has the perfectly placed whorl on his forehead. Right between the eyes.
It certainly is nice to read an article about the Kentucky Derby, instead of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Giant Conglomerate, Inc.
The worst had to be the Yum! Brands sponsorship. I flinched at every mention.
He’s not Spectacular Bid perfect, but he’s close. Sandman has that regal look whether standing or moving. I’m still looking at Coal Battle or Journalism, but dang, my eye keeps following the big not-so-gray boy.
