Triple Crown races 2025

Not really hot on anybody but if I was to put a little money on it, Asmussen is sending out 2 at 20-1. Starting right next to each other, Publisher and Tiztastic. Ridden by class act jocks. Why not?

For the Oaks, like Good Cheer, so do most other people.

Along those lines, I’m dropping a crisp $2 on Luxor Cafe simply because his name reminds me of the wonderful Amelia Peabody series written by Elizabeth Peters.

I’m not really feeling anyone this year. Do I just go with the literary references? Or Mike Smith?

‘I Understand The Dream’: Connections Push McPeek Off Fence, Will Enter Render Judgment In Derby - Paulick Report | Latest news and commentary from the horse racing and equine world

"It was Toby’s dream….Render Judgement is going to the @kentuckyderby, the post read. “He worked so hard to finally have one there! Toby will have the best seat in the house to watch.”

I hope he has a long and enjoyable 2nd career.

Lava Man worked the track for many years. It’s great to see him having a perfect retirement at Old Friends.

For the Oaks I’m going to go with names I like. Fondly and Quietside.

For the Derby I’m staying with Sandman for his beauty, Journalism for his stride, and Coal Battle because I like the name and think he’s adorable. If a longshot finds his way to the win I’m good with that too!

Take a short ride on Derby contender Burnham Square. I wish the galloping part was longer. You could feel how fast he was accelerating!

I like Luxor Cafe! He’s got a funny way of going, but I’m going to bet him.

Same.

I watched some of the gallops again this morning. Still really love Sovereignty; he looks like he could go bound around an Eventing course. Super fun dude, he loves his job. And who doesn’t love Bill Mott…

Tiztastic could be a sleeper but he just looks so bored in the mornings. Publisher definitely looks like the more exciting Asmussen horse out of the two.

Still love the look of Citizen Bull but man, I hope Bob does not win it. He’s a pretty mover but also a bit of a difficult horse- will standing in the 1 gate as long as he has to become a problem on Saturday with the crowd and all that? I haven’t seen him school in the gate this week. One thing is for sure, Bob is going to send that one to the front and my only hope is that the rest of the field doesn’t let the Bob horses control the race and let them win like they have so many other times.

Burnham Square looks like a psycho LOL. His nose is to his chest the entire time he is on the track every morning. I think he will be unhinged on Saturday but I think he is also rather tough.

Sandman needs the mile and half Belmont which we won’t have again this year.

I am showing rain for Saturday in Louisville. Need to catch up on the forecast but I am hoping it is not a mud fest.

I have to say if I was in the ownership group of the horse; I would do the same thing. Whether or not the horse belonged in the Derby is a different story but to finally have the chance to run one on the first Saturday in May, a great honor. Rich Strike and Mine That Bird kind of proved that anything is possible- It’s a 20 horse field and I think heart and mental state mean more on Saturday than speed and pedigree.

Tiztastic is looking good! I don’t think I’ve seen Citizen Bull even just standing around. If the track is sloppy I’m wondering if Burnham Square will plow his little self right to the front. He seems a bullheaded chap.

I saw that it has been 20 years since a grey horse won the derby! Interesting factoid.

Rodriguez out, Baeza is in.

Have to wonder if he’ll be a late scratch or if he’ll make it to the starting gate.

Ouch, that quarter crack sounds bad. Hard to imagine they can patch it up enough to hold for the race, but maybe.

This video isn’t of one of the Derby horses, but it’s really cool to see and hear how the jockey was going to get his horse to switch leads.

That’s really too bad, I hope it’s something minor and she pops back into form.

Do not like the look of that quarter crack on Render Judgement, and if it’s supposed to be a sloppy track (continues to threaten rain tomorrow and Saturday), I hope they’ll reconsider running him…
