Triumph hunt coat, size 42 mens, melton, need more sizing help, please.

I tried to look for the company Triumph and a chart on line but did not locate one.

Not a good question, but roughly what size (female) person would this fit?

It’s the one with the double vents and three lower pockets, if that helps. Is it a decent quality? It’s the mid-weight one.

Thanks so much.

No one? Please.

Does anyone know of a web site for Triumph, even? Tx/

The only Triumph (or Tri-umph!) hunt coats I can find are from the old Miller’s line. Any related website or sizing charts would be long gone. I don’t know if the brand continued after Miller’s ended, but it doesn’t seem like it.

I’ve given up trying to guess what size I am in hunt coats. Too expensive to pay for shipping back and forth. I tried on coats last time I was in VA, and I was a 10L in one brand and a 16R in another brand.

Thanks so much, Cammie.

I believe Triumph is made in England.

I asked the seller what size person it might fit, I got the reply of “Are you serious? It’s a 42.” Nice, eh? Like 42 says it all?

You could ask them to measure across the shoulders, the arm length and from base of collar to the bottom of the coat. This way you will know if it will generally fit.

Although I’m not sure the seller sounds like the type to put forth the effort to make the sale.

Best of luck.

Thanks Jawa. I was about to drop the idea, as the seller seems, well . . .

Oh, I don’t understand how people can be like that.

They are going to measure for me. now.

Is double vented OK, though?

I like a double vented coat. It may not be 100% “proper”, but it covers the rear nicely.

Good luck with the measurements. Hope it’s a perfect fit.

Ask her to measure armpit seam to armpit seam across the back, too.

That measurement should be approx +4" more than your bust, which should allow the jacket to drape, but not gape.

Thanks all. Well, I bought it. It’s coming in the mail. Hopefully it will fit. Thanks for all your help.

Double vented sounds to me like it would be more comfortable than single, too.

I had the same question…

OP -

I’m pretty sure I know which coat you just bought. I saw it, couldn’t figure out the conversion, and then life got crazy (SO & I are buying a farm among other things), so I just let it go.

It seems like a nice coat - fingers crossed it works for you!

Thanks Honey B.

Congratulations on your new farm.

I’m not sure sure about the sizing, either. Well, if it doesn’t work out, it goes back on e-bay.

Does Melton always mean 100 percent wool or not necessarily?

Received it. Darn, too small in the shoulders. Back on e-bay it goes.

For the record, Triumph’s men’s coats DID run small through the shoulders and elsewhere. I only sold 3 of them in my career (we found them hidden in a storage facility ) and all were what I’d’ve called a slim fit.

Sonoma- My melton is a size 14L and it’s really waaaay too big for me. I’ve been thinking about trying to engineer a trade here on COTH. It’s labeled as “Classics” on the inside, so I’m assuming it’s RJ Classics, similar to this one: it did have a $300 tag on it when I got it. It’s very high quality but it was just much bigger than I was expecting when it arrived. I’ve used it for 1.5 seasons and it looks brand new.

Did you ever figure out what the 42 Triumph equates to? I’m just shy of 5’8", 127 lbs.

Thanks Kryswyn: all were what I’d’ve called a slim fit Yes, sounds right. E-bay - love it and hate it. Oh, well.

Gotcha Hey. I’m just shy of 5’8", 127 lbs. OK, I’m envious. I’m shorter and fatter (well, not that bad).

A Triumph 42L should be 21" across the chest when laid flat. If your bust is a 38C, it might fit, but I would say measure your bust and if it’s 42" or less you might be okay. If your ribcage and waist taper down to around a 34, you might be okay. Typically, a man who wears a 42" jacket has a 34-38" waist. But the Triumph will favor a man who’s 42 chest 34-36" waist.

Thanks Kryswyn.

I’m a 36B, 34 waist, but just doesn’t work at all

I did learn that I like the long length, though

It measures:

Chest measures 20" across at the widest part (sort of a bit below where the sleeves attach in)

top of collar (in the back) to bottom of coat (coat laying face down):
33.5" - 33.75"

with the coat laying face down, picture the seam that sews the arm in:

at the top, it is 18"
middle of arm seam- 16.5"
bottom of arm seam - 18"

sleeve (coat laying face down), measuring seam from where it attaches /starts at the arm seam, down the seam, just along the bottoms (still on the seam), 21"

If you’re back to shopping, I found that the Ovation hunt coat, which does come in a long, is a good buy. Horseloverz.com has it for $133, with limited sizes available. If you don’t have a boyish figure, a men’s coat may not work as well as a women’s coat. Good luck with your search.

A million years ago, there was a Canadian company whose name included the word Classic, who made nice hunt coats. Could it be one of theirs?

I think I still have a couple, but they’re in a box in the guest room. We could compare labels.

Thanks so much, Hind. I just tried to call them to get help with sizing and they are closed right now. Will do tomorrow.

Thanks, all, for putting up with a thread that really isn’t that exciting.
