Trouble Getting Paid by Trumbull Mountain after Saddle is sold?

The first saddle I ever bought with my own money I got from them. It was an amazing experience, and the fit for meyself and my horse was perfect.

Couple of years ago I went back to them when looking for a saddle for my current horse, and the experience was nothing alike. I feel like their customer service has really gone downhill.

Time to call them and say I AM CALLING MY LAWYER

on one of the other threads they kept telling the OP the check was in the mail and never was.

This annoys me. Someone bought the saddle, you (tack shop) got paid, you keep your portion, and send the former owner theirs. Done. Just put the dang check in the mail, it is a very easy thing to do if you are not being shady!

I also wonder what the consignment contracts/agreements read like…because there’s that too.

The most telling thing about this thread is this tack shop is active on COTH yet has never responded to the threads about it. Many other business are quick to respond when a thread pops up here regarding a complaint and are quick to apologize and get the matter taken care of; that says a lot.

I am not suggesting your advise is worthless, but assume this store owner as heard that one before.

I would consider filing thief by deception charge trough the local law enforcement’s office as there is nothing different than some one breaking into your house, here depending upon value the charge for thief by deception range from a misdemeanor level offense up to a first degree felony offense

All this would cost you is time, not an attorney’s fee.

Most likely will be referred to lawyers because of the civil nature. LE doesn’t get involved in contracts. This is a small claims court issue.

I’m so glad I saw this thread! I have two saddles I was considering sending out on consignment to Trumbull or one of the other well known places. I think I’ll just try my luck with eBay or Facebook now.

There’s an awful lot of problems reported with eBay on this forum, so I’d be careful there. A lot of people apparently have been totally ripped off by a system that protects purchasers who claim problems with the item and the seller loses out. I don’t do Facebook but I’d probably be pretty careful there too.

I have done business with Pelham Saddlery in person over a number of years. They have a very large store and as far as I know a good reputation. Maybe check out their website.

One of my favorite places to watch (although I’ve never done business there) is Galloping Grape.

I also believe @GallopingGrape is active here. Seems to be a tack shop with a really good reputation.

I’ve had good luck with ebay but have never sold a saddle there. I’ve bought a saddle from Pelham and it was a good experience - but now I’m paranoid about sending my saddles away. I’ve sold tons of cars to individuals successfully - but I feel like selling horses and tack are another level of weirdness.

Op…any results yet?

That’s probably one of the most accurate statements ever made on COTH.

I’m in the middle of a dispute with them as well. I would NOT recommend anyone getting involved with them. If my matter is solved, I will post here. I returned a saddle to them over a month ago and have yet to be paid.

Ok that’s it. I’m just gonna sell my stuff myself or it will remain at my house as attractive decorations.

While I’m sure it makes lovely decor, don’t give up entirely on consignment options. There are good places out there. I have always been paid promptly and according to contract when consigning with Middleburg Tack Exchange. I am semi-local to them and make the trip when I have things to consign, but I know they also deal with long-distance consignors. I’m actually getting tired of dealing with FB tire-kickers and about to take another load to them.

I have sold two saddles through a tack shop local to me whose primary market is hunters and I was paid promptly according to the contract. The only reason this saddle went to Trumball Mountain (aka jaybird660) was what I viewed as the lack of local market. And no check has shown up yet…

per Rich McGarry … The first check was lost in the mail. The next one will go with a tracking number. Sure, right. So far no check…

I have also sold saddles through local tack shops with good luck. I’ve never tried selling a saddle on eBay or through consignment from a shop that is not local to me.

The most recent experience was selling a Stackhouse at The Tack Box in Middleburg. Middleburg Tack Exchange actually sent me there when I approached them about consigning the saddle as The Tack Box is well-versed in Stackhouse and has a good relationship with David and Leslie. I had a positive experience, saddle sold in about 6 months’ time (it was a very narrow tree so not much of a market out there for it) and was paid when they said I would get paid (it was about a month or so after the saddle actually sold - they waited for the check to clear on their end before issuing a check to me).

Believe that was the same thing told on one of the other threads, regarding same issue.
