I’m starting to wonder if I will have trouble getting paid by the tack store that sold my saddle. They have a great rep on these forums. According to the consignment form I should have been paid by yesterday. Nothing… I’ve called and gotten the brush off once. Any suggestions? I will be happy to name names if this drags on…
I’ve sold 4 saddles via various consignment tack shops. Every time, I had to go in the store to find out the saddle was sold. Every time, it took direct face to face contact to get paid. I did get paid within 6 weeks of my finding out the saddle was sold.
I have emailed and plan to call tomorrow. I’ve also done some Internet sleuthing and discovered multiple BBB and yelp complaints about this store being very slow/very resistant to pay. I’m so disappointed; they are so highly thought of on these forums.
very sorry for you and hope it turns out well for you!!
Pretty sure who it is and they have had some real issues with paying people. One person on this board didn’t get paid for months, many phone calls and promises of check is in the mail, it still took months. Outing them here didn’t help, despite the rep being active on the board.
File a complaint with the BBB and the Federal Trade Commission.
Thanks js. It shouldn’t be hard to guess. Yes, the owner is active here. I’ve never seen any negative comments about them on this board, only extremely high praise. Can you point me to the prior complaint thread? I can’t find it. The BBB complaint form is open in my browser.
this was one but thinking there was another too with other people chiming in with their experiences
One prior complaint thread (if it is who I think it is):
https://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/forum/discussion-forums/off-course/339581-trumbull-mountain-tack-has-anyone-had-a-positive-experience-consigning-a-saddle
Has a couple of other threads linked within it as well.
Yes, it’s Trumball Mountain. I see she’s posted elsewhere today so she may have seen this thread. Based on those other threads I may need an attorney to get paid. Why does she have such a great rep on these boards?
This happened to me - different state. I had to drive to check the status of my saddle, couldn’t find it anywhere in the saddle section. A clerk got all flustered because she had to go get the owner from the office, and she knew what was coming. Owner got all up in my face about it, pretended she didn’t know anything. Got the records out and it was her who sold the saddle and at a significantly lower price, for which by the terms of my assignment contract she had no approval to do, and it was 2 months previous. The owner got louder to back me off of questioning this and wrote the check and threw it at me. I will NEVER do business with them again. Are you close enough to drive there and wait until other customers go in the store! and then confront them?
Wow! No, I am not close enough to drive but flight deals can be had these days.
I think the disparity here is that that saddlery “did” have an excellent reputation, and a great saddle fitter working there. If I remember correctly, the woman who owned it died… and it was sold. The new buyer… not so much. The saddle fitter I am thinking of left… others left… and it seems to have gone downhill since. Don’t take this as absolute fact… its a foggy memory of the past
digihorse, your memory is correct.
The quality of the service at this tack shop decreased significantly after the company was sold.
the original saddle fitter was amazing.
The person doing it now spends way too much time on the internet and not enough time with potential customers. I got the impression they want to try making a quick sale and move on…
Happened to me, I had a thread on here too. Great to work with on the long distance fitting and purchase. When it came time to consign, collected the saddle and posted it very timely. When the saddle finally sold is when the issues started. I ended up filing a complaint on BBB and got an immediate response from the business owner, and a check shortly after (within a week if I recall).
I think the other linked threads prove that their rep is not near as good as it was.
They used to be good. Now not so much.
It would be nice if the current owner would take all the frustration people have with them and use it to nudge them into running the business more like it used to be run.
Updates?
I have been told the check is in the mail. LOL!! We will see… A BBB complaint was filed last week; I’m not sure those do any good. He did know exactly how much he owed me as soon I said my name. I’ve already had one opportunity in the last week to tell someone not to use them.
Nothing has arrived in the mail. Time to call them again… and I’ve had another opportunity to say “Don’t use them”.
What is with tack shops! I am in a similar situation with a local tack shop. The only reason I knew my stuff had sold was that I was in there and didn’t see it out on the floor. Asked a sales person, and apparently it had sold almost a month and a half before I was in there. Three months later and I am still waiting on my check. Sadly they recently employed a new consignment manager who is a total witch. It has not been a pleasant experience, and will be the last time I consign with them. Guess they are looking more for the kind of people who don’t care about their stuff, and aren’t too worried about getting their money.
