Truck Tires!!

275/70/18 for a 1 ton diesel. I put Goodyear Trail Runner AT on this truck approx 25,000 miles ago (supposed to be a 50k tire) and have rotated them and they are WORE OUT! OMG! To be fair, I wouldn’t expect truck tires to actually last that long unless all you do is highway drive, but good golly. These haven’t worn right from the get-go.
They have however, been excellent in our wet Oregon seasons, have gotten me by just fine in the snow/ice, haven’t tanked my MPG… so there have been some positives.

But now, hunting season is upon us, and hubby says they must be replaced before elk season. Yup, I agree.

So. Looking for input on what folks are finding is actually a good tire to plunk down money on!!

Need an all terrain tire - NO highway tires. E load rating - I do haul in the bed, as well as my horse trailer.
Don’t need an “off road mud” tire.

Thanks!

I like to check out the options and reviews on tirerack.com. You plug in your vehicle, and it will give you available tires for it (they sell many brands, but maybe not all of your choices).

From that, my last truck tire purchase (about a year ago) turned out to be Kumho Ventures, load range E. I had not really heard of them before, but the reviews were great, and so far, I’m happy with them. I believe they also have a beefier off road tire. On my last truck, I was very happy with Bridgestone A/T Revo tires, which don’t seem to be available for my current truck.

My husband insists on Michelins for our vehicles. The truck has LTX M/S tires, and they’ve performed well. That’s a highway tire, but take a look at what Michelin has for all terrain.

Michelins. Don’t waste your money on anything else.

Goodyear’s are junk. Absolute junk. My truck came with them and they were just horrendous.

I love my michelins. You can get a great deal if you buy through Costco

I have Toyo Open Country ATs on my truck. I’m happy with them.

I llked these, too. And, OP, Les Schwab is (or at least used to be) the West Coast dealer for Toyos. Where I lived, Les Schwab’s service was amazing.

I went into my local tire shop yesterday for pricing, and to get their thoughts on what might have happened on the Goodyears - the tread wear issue. No answers on that, he thought that was rather odd.

But anyways… decided on Nokian Rotiiva AT Plus. Reading decent reviews on them and they look like they’ll do the job. Tire guy says he’s getting good feedback on them from customers too. They do a lot of trucks, so he understands that.

Toyo’s are way out of my price range. Oh, and @mvp - you can get them most any dealer now. Not just 'Schwab anymore.

Michelin’s I can get thru Costco, yes, but the inconvenience of getting to a Costco outweighs any positives by way too far! Plus I like to maintain some sort of “relationship” with my service providers, so I try to go where they might actually remember me!

You can’t get michelins at your local place? How weird! I’ve always been able to find them wherever.

I hope you have better luck with the Nokians than with the Goodyears!

I can get them but they are way beyond a Costco price. $$$$!!

oh but tire guy did say they were about the best tire around.

Michelin

The toyos were VERY expensive. More than the wheels they are mounted on, per.

The all terrain tires are softer and have more voids for traction. Opposite of a long wearing highway tire. Just consider your need vs desire.

If your tires are wearing strange/uneven, you may want to get an alignment check when you get new tires. Also tire pressures that are not properly maintained through varying seasons will wear tires faster. I personally never liked the Michelin’s that came with my truck (Ford), and got Sumitomo’s through Tire Rack with a 60k warranty. I would look toward a tire with a mileage warranty. They may be more expensive, but you can at least get tires replaced if there’s a defect in the tire or they wear faster than they should. My next tire will be Firestone’s. I need something beefier for the snow!
