Trumbull Mountain Tack treatment

I know that there have been threads about Trumbull Mountain Tack in the past, and just wanted to update with my experience. As I post this, they owe me over $1,000 for a saddle I consigned with them. Despite repeated emails and phone calls in which Rich McGarry has said he would pay me, I have received nothing. It’s been like 6 months. They may be good at fitting and selling saddles, but I cannot recommend consigning with them. And if you buy a saddle from them, be advised that the actual owner of the saddle may never receive any payment. Not cool.

Can you file a police report for theft or fraud? Not sure if that’s the way to go, but…maybe?

Not the first time I’ve heard this complaint.

Wow…Trumbull Mountain sure has changed. I know they changed owners a while back. But this is something else.

OP can try, but police will likely not do anything because breach of contract is considered a civil dispute, not a criminal act. Assuming there’s a consignment agreement in place, OP will probably have to take them to small claims court if they don’t pay up. Sometimes just threatening to do so can work wonders too.

Sadly this seems to be a common thing with them now.

Sigh. Very sad. Here’s a resource that might be worth a shot.

My barn mate had this issue with them back in 2014. $2,100 & it took almost a year to get payment for a sold saddle. This is not a new problem with Trumbull Mtn. I do love their custom fleece saddle covers & gave them as gifts once upon a time, but never again.

Yes, just as follow-up, I have filed a complaint with the Vermont Attorney General’s Office as well as the Better Business Bureau. And posted here just to let other folks know about my experience. Sadly, I’m not the only one who been treated in this shoddy fashion. Hope people will think twice about buying from or consigning with them.

I went through this with them, and it was only until I filed a complaint with the BBB that I got an immediate resolution. Good luck.

What happened to them? I used them to sell and buy and had no issues, but this was back in early 2000s. Such a shame. I dealt with the same lady every time.

The owner died several years ago, and I suspect the business was sold and the new owners are the problem.

Is Rich McGarry the new owner?

Yes. His wife Jay is on the forum. Jaybird660.
