Trying to alter my Bucas Sweet Itch fly rug

Good Morning and thank you for allowing me to join this site.

I need advice on how to alter my Bucas Sweet Itch fly rug. My stallion measures exactly 72", which is the size of rug I purchased. However, the first issue I had was that the belly sheet was way too big for him. I was worried he could possibly get his leg caught…so I altered that, no problem.

Second issue is that the fly sheet pulls back on his but and it way too tight on both his neck and his chest. I’ve ordered a chest extender, however, it’s going to take approximately 8 weeks to get here.

I am going to attempt to alter, but I will need a piece of fabric to make my own chest extender…any idea what/where I can find an acceptable type of fabric? I’ve also purchased more velcro to extend the straps for the neck and chest.

Thank you!

Silver/Blue or Zebra stripes ?

Actually I would not care what this temporary patch was made of unless the horse was one that would be ashamed of being dressed like a country bumpkin in a patchwork sheet,

I would take an older sheet and cut a hunk out of it

Just guessing are you in Europe? Out here in Texas we just call these thing fly sheets…but whatever they are called I have found the horse can tear them up when ever they want

LOL…nope, I’m in Canada. I don’t mind what he looks like, I am wondering what material would work the best and not rip easily. We call em fly sheets as well, I was just referring to Bucas’ reference. Anyone have a pattern??

It is the Zebra one.

do you see any fewer flies using the zebra version?

We have started using a dog fly treatment on wonder boy who is allergic to most anything (under the guidance of our equine vet) … that stuff appears to be helpful.

We netted his stall with a misquote netting to keep the flies out…that has worked wonderfully, so well that we remove his dull body fly sheet when he is stalled,
