OK, so the USEF streaming site is (as of this moment) 100% down, and for anyone curious, here’s how many people are actually onsite for the reining team comp. this morning:
I’m trying to stay optimistic, but…!

There is a link for live scoring for each event (and online viewing, but I think that’s the paid one) at:
http://www.alltechfeigames.com/content.aspx?id=5168
For those of us stuck working today and not even trying to online view, the live scoring links are handy. Looks like US in the lead so far, although it just started.
I agree, that’s a pretty empty stadium.
HRTV
For those who watch a little horse racing tv, HRTV has done an INCREDIBLE job of promoting the WEG. I also heard that they were going to do HOURLY updates[!] on each sport and the scores!
Perhaps the free site is shut down because they had no idea how much traffic they would draw? Hope they can get it fixed!
It’s Saturday morning and, face it, it is a minor sport with a pricey ticket in a college sport saturated area with average median income. Don’t think that many from out of the country would plan a vacation around Reining like they might for Eventing or Show Jumping. Opening Ceremonies are tonite as well, that would pull from this morning.
If there is one thing that was missed, IMO, it’s the fact WEG is in competition with well established fall sports events for that limited local dollar.
Being from the area, I can tell you the advertising was well short of what might have been done. Unless you were looking for it…almost not there at all.
The CVG airport does have alot of signage BUT, with the exception of one display, it was put up last week.
I can tell you, most of my non horsey friends are totally unaware and the ones that are a little interested were put off by the ticket prices for a family of 4 plus parking…they are all going with Reds playoff tickets instead.
Guess that’s why there is free admission to college students to reining on Sunday. What a shame. I really think they overpriced the tickets.
Yeah…this is not a major population center and it’s not the only sport today-just, probably, the most expensive, least promoted one.
There are several million residents within about a 3 hour drive and double that within about a 5 hour drive. But, adding 2+ tanks of gas and possible hotel and food costs is going to keep that casual market closer to home selecting from numerous more convenient sport/recreation options for a family.
A few minutes ago both USEF and USHJA sites were down.
I started another thread about NBC telecasting the Opening Ceremonies tonite in SOME markets…maybe that will help ease the pain of the (not unexpected) swamped sites.
Good luck finding that telecast but it will be out there.
Just got done watching a lot of very good coverage of reining. As of about 2:45pm Central time, the coverage concluded, so anyone tuning in to the USEf site now will see an “off the air” message.
Cautiously optimistic that I will get to see opening ceremony coverage.
I also loved the great reining coverage…thanks to the USEF for providing it for free.
Caitlin
Ya’ know, if they would have publicized the fact Ali would be in the opening ceremony???
The whole thing would have gotten more local press-it has not made the local news in Cincy yet even though the local NBC outlet is carrying tonites coverage.
