Tryon International Equestrian Center, The New Standard...
Ok, People, have you heard the latest? Atlanta trainer are up in arms, as Tryon has bought many of the Atlanta area shows, so there will be fewer shows close to home…
Which no doubt thrills the developers who are itching to get their mitts on the showgrounds at Wills Park. This will give them some ammo.

The Walm-mart-ization of horse shows continues…

I have heard from several reliable sources that Tryon has bought Aiken dates BUT just saw this tonight-a new horse park in Aiken.

This could be a reality show!! Horse Show Wars…

This has been in the works for awhile and is not “new” news…

Basically, like it or not, the Tryon facility is causing other horse communities/facilities to raise their standards, which is NEVER a bad thing

I recall getting an email that some of the Equus Events shows that were in Aiken are now moved to Tryon.

cheer up Mroades!!!, I saw you at Tryon last month! You looked like you were having fun!!

When will the Tryons shows start up again in 2015?

First post!

I haven’t competed there -yet-, but I have been up there several times to watch their Grand Prix’s since I only live 45 minutes away. I can say that the facilities are beautiful.

The horses have huge stalls, there are designated areas for muck-dumping, there are plenty of wash stalls(not sure how many exactly but I know there are a lot). The horses never have to walk on concrete unless they are walking in the barn aisle ways. The footing actually does have a good amount of give, at least from what I have seen. Also, there IS a hand grazing site, too.

One issue that kind of bugs me, however, is the parking. It’s kind of awful right now. But, it’s free. I hope it stays that way.

Remember that they had a $100 million “budget” when they started developing this place, and they are making money off of it already, even though it isn’t finished yet. Any kinks and issues will hopefully be worked out with time. The area will benefit so greatly from this center. I believe it already has. Either way, it definitely puts Tryon back “on the map”, so to speak.

Let’s hope the Tryon International Equestrian Center will age like wine, and not milk.

I went up with my barn as a “groom” (please take me along so I can see the beautiful new facility). I was impressed. As for some of the things that people have complained about. The schooling rings were small, but there was a ton of them. The stalls were surprisingly large and the fans, halter holder, tack room were all nice touches. We were far from end of the barn from the manure pit and as the one cleaning most of the stalls I could complain about that, I guess.

I did work one of the ponies one evening while the girl was working on her school work. I don’t have a lot of experience with this type of footing, but I didn’t notice any difference in the pony. I will say that we had a mare up there that is prone to sore feet (white soft hooves) and she came back fine.

No hot water was downside that I wasn’t expecting, but we were ever to make do.

Also, I would like to remind everyone that they are still in the middle of construction so I am sure there will still be improvements as they figure out what they need. Lets stay positive, but make sure to voice your concerns so they can make it better.

I am happy to have the new facility in my home state. I can’t wait to go and watch more shows there and maybe one day bring my girl up for a show.

Also, this new reality show sounds like quite the drama. Where is my popcorn?

They have not posted dates for 2015 but I know they have bought some. Any news on what they will offer in 2015? I really want to go there!

Go to USEF.org and check the calendar of competitions. There are some listed for Mill Spring, NC, referencing the website listed above. Those might be the ones you are looking for.

I found three dates-two in April and one in May. Did you find more?

Yes, also found a charity horse show in June and Tryon Summer in July. Sometimes the search returns better results if you leave the discipline blank.

The charity horse show in June may have been NCHJA annual show date which they were trying to buy from NCHJA. According to reports after the annual meeting, the date will stay with NCHJA and in Raleigh at least for this year

Funny thing - I just googled “Atlanta horse shows moved to Tryon”, because I hadn’t heard about that and wanted to find more info. The first two results were for Equus Events. The third result was for Wal-Mart.

Rule #39: There is no such thing as coincidence.

You won’t notice a difference with only one or two days of showing; but at WEF when your horse might show in 6 of the 12 weeks, there is a noticeable, and negative difference. I do not care at all for ESI footing. There is simply nothing better than sand (ie ride in the $20 ring at WEF and you will notice the difference!) It compacts hard as rocks and has zero give.

I liked the facility, but I see so many of the same mistakes that are at WEF.

warm up rings are TOO LITTLE

THIS…

hysterical!! I have to say, I was very disappointed in the size of the warm up rings. They are very small and there is no place for horses to come in/out of the rings without being in the way of the people warming up. I was rather surprised this wasn’t thought out a little better. bummer.

So what has happened to the show web site? I still see the show dates on the USEF calendar, but the links to tryonhorseshows.com are all broken. Googled and don’t see any prize lists or other information about the shows online…and I thought they were starting back up in April. Anybody know what’s up?

It was recently changed to www.tryon.com. Easier to remember! The spring schedule has been released- looks like there will be lots going on!

Thanks, Janedoe726!

So weird that they did not use a redirect on the old url. Now they will have to go around to other sites, like USEF, to fix their links. Not a very good job on the part of whoever manages their site.
