Tryon International Equestrian Center, The New Standard...

I see they have 8 weeks of shows for their “spring” series. Four of them are AA, 3 of them are B, and one has “rating pending” listed. That weekend is the same weekend as an A show at the Carolina Horse Park so not sure if they’ll be able to host anything but a B show that weekend either.

Looks like they have a plan for the spring so far: here

Holy cow! Camper spaces are $295 a week!

So I was talking to a friend who is an R judge and judged at Tryon this fall. He said it’s amazing and it’s going to be absolutely huge and will probably take over WEF in terms of “biggest show in the US” pretty soon.

I’ve been contemplating getting in NOW and buying a lot near the showgrounds. I’ve looked online and found a few that are in the $50,000 range. Seriously thinking about plunking down the 50k and sitting on the vacant land for a few years and then letting someone buy me out to build a McMansion or a farmette or something.

You’ve mentioned the idea of investing in Tryon property a few times. You should go ahead so I can live vicariously through you ;). I’m interested to see what kind of growth there is in terms of property value around there and how the community grows develops in response.

Where are the little log cabins? On the grounds? There is one on display at WEF. I haven’t been inside, but it looks cute and feasible for horse show life.

I have?? I didn’t realize I was repeating myself, sorry. That’s embarrassing. A mind is a terrible thing…

I am interested in those things, too…it’s a little scary to think about going in without knowing but I guess you really just never know.

As of last fall, the show office was the only one built so far- and it is quite nice! According to the site map, they will be on the northwest side, off behind the barns. This place is going to be quite spectacular.

Yes they are on the grounds, clustered in a private area up past the barns. There were 6 of them up in use during the summer/fall 2014 shows. Very nice, 3BR/3BA, can sleep 6-8 people IIRC. Granite, WiFi, wide screen TVs, all the amenities. Back decks overlooking a creek and woods. They are manufactured by Blue Ridge Log Cabin which is a builder just across the state line in SC; they have a website if anyone wants to see them. At least 14 more cabins were planned for TIEC back then, for a total of 20. I talked to one pro rider last summer who was staying in one with her pro rider husband and they liked the cabin so much they extended their stay a week.

Not cheap but if you’re splitting with handful of people it would work out to less than a nice hotel room for a week plus you get your own full kitchen, privacy, convenience to grounds, etc.

I have stayed in the cabins as I have judged at TIEC
They are indeed nice (although the water pressure is terrible) but dang you have got to be a billionaire to think about staying there

No doubt they are out of my own price range but if they cost $3k a week (which is what I heard) and you have 6 people splitting cost, it would be $500 each for the week or less than $100/night. Surely you can’t find a hotel with as nice amenities for less than $100/night, can you? Plus privacy and convenience?

I’m not being a wise guy I just wonder if my math is flawed - or maybe people at that level wouldn’t split a cabin?

Are there going to be any properties available to purchase on the grounds or adjacent to the grounds? I’m thinking like Grand Prix village at WEF but on a much less “Grand” scale. More like Children’s Hunter village or 3’ AO village. Seriously, I’d considering buying as an investment so I don’t have to rent for $3000 a month. And then I could rent it when I’m not there. Or like Mallet Hill at WEF with homes and farms/farmettes.

The 1000+acre property (formerly White Oak Plantation) was in the very beginnings of being developed as a golf course (already installed) community when the economy crashed in 2008. There are plans for small farms, single family homes, townhomes, etc., in its new incarnation.

I think I would have to look into the Short Stirrup Village. Or maybe even the Crossrails Village?

If you’re only looking for a small house, not needing your own barn/arena, etc., you could look at Derbyshire which is a kind of cottage community about a 10-minute drive from TIEC (on Landrum Road). Many lots, not many houses yet because of the recession. Seems to be nicely designed, good landscaping, small lake, walking/riding trails and central barn - although that may get filled up with permanent residents. Just a thought.

You math is flawed. It would be like a $200 a night hotel.

No…her math is correct: $3000 divided by 6 = $500. Divided by 5 = $100/night. Around here, there are no hotels on show grounds and none I’ve stayed in are less than $100/night.

yes, but that is two people per room. Two people is $200 per night.

Do you really think it would draw that many people away from WEF? 79* in Wellington today, 35* at Asheville airport… I also saw one of the sample cabins on the grounds at WEF. While it looks very cute and cozy, after a week or two cozy might become cramped.

It isn’t intended to draw away from WEF. The Tryon shows will run April-October.
