Tucker saddle questions?

My husband had a Tucker Frontier something or other saddle. I have always ridden English and have never found a western saddle I liked until I rode in his Tucker yesterday. My entire body may be in love. The horse doesn’t seem to mind it either, and he can be rather opinionated about a saddle he dislikes.

I am considering ordering one for myself, but I want an endurance type. I have no use for a horn, and I would prefer the ability to hop over a log occasionally (we have some in the hoods around here). I am looking at their endurance model with the same seat, but the cantle is less deep and of course it has no swell like this saddle. I am 5’9" with long legs, and his 16.5" saddle fits me perfectly (stirrups a hair shorter than many western riders would use). However, I am curious about the fit without the swell? I would likely add bucking rolls since my horse has mad breaks when he sees something he dislikes.

Should I go with the 16.5" still? Will the 3.5" cantle and lack of swell make a difference in the seat size? I will be ordering it, so I can’t go sit in the exact model. I am in the middle of nowhere with no options for tack shopping in person.

Too bad his old Abetta didn’t work for me. It would have been a heck of a lot cheaper.

I am on my second Tucker Equitation Endurance model - old horse wide, new horse not - and I really like them. Very comfortable and secure. You have options on the style of leathers and girth; I chose English leathers and girth.

Unfortunately I can’t help you with the seat size question. My suggestion is to call Tucker and pose your question to them in terms of comparative seat sizing on the different models. It’s been a long time since I bought but I have found them very helpful over the phone. Good luck…

I second calling Tucker and speaking with them-overall, a small company that is willing to be very helpful over the phone. Ask for Darrell.
