Turn Out Boots

What are the best boots to use for turnout for front and back.
I need tall ones in the back not just the ankle type.
I am using these ribbed green boots at the moment, but I am worried about Elliot sweating in them on hot days.

I have been looking at those Dover ones on closeout.
A horse across the aisle from Elliot has them I think I will take a closer look at how they are holding up.

Like someone else said, I’ve also heard from people that the newer Heidis aren’t as good as the older ones!! What boots do you guys recommend that in that style? Do you still think I should go with Heidis? I love their convinience, but I don’t want to pay $60 to have them fall apart quickly.

My horse goes out in the weatherbeeta PVC boots. I’ve had them for more than a year and they still look new. She doesn’t sweat under them at all and the best part is all you do to clean them is throw them in a bucket of cold water and shake to dry

I second the thumbs up for Heidi boots. Doesn’t make them sweat like neoprene, and you can chuck them in the washing machine when they’re dirty.

What are they? Do they have a real name or is that the name? Who sells them?

Heidi Boots are a brand name of Euro Pro boots, and Dover carries them - I’ve never owned a set, but once he’s in a position to do so, my klutz TB will go out in them. They’re on p134 of the new Dover catolog, listed as Euro Pro Heidi Galloping Boots (in 3 sizes, black, brown, or white) for $64.70. Euro Pro also makes Askan Hind boots (same sizes, same colors) for $64.70 again.

On a random note, PamM - how’s the tack trunk coming? I read something about your design and it sounds really neat; I’d love to see pictures when you’re done!

Another warning to stay away from Dover’s faux-Heidis!!! I bought some and they started to fall apoart within a week or two… My horse doesn’t brush that badly, but she’s a tiny bit base narrow. The striking patch started to come off. I still use them, but I was really unsatisfied with how fast they fell apart. I’m planning on buying real Heidis soon. Has anyone tried the Dressage Sport Boots or the All Sport Boots. They have them in Dover and they are a very similar design to the Heidis but slightly less expensive.

I don’t know if our horses are just really hard on boots or if the quality has gone down because my whole barn wears Heidi boots just to ride and they have been falling apart really bad latley. I have a pair that ar 4 years old and they are still good, but I recently bought some new ones and the stiching has come out on the bottom in only 3 months. Many other people I know have had this problem lately.

I have been using the white fleece lined “Heidi” boots front and back for a couple of years now. Actually on my second pair of hind. The fleece eventually gave out and was causing some minor rubbing of hair. Nothing drastic.

I liked them because they were quick and easy on and off so I could ask anyone to use them and not worry. I could launder them in the washer and dryer. They held up well to sand and grime (don’t know about mud though
). They offer knocking around in protection but of course not support.

I recommend staying away from the Dover inexpensive model on closeout though. My replacement ones are those and I don’t see them holding up as well. So I guess you do get what you pay for sometimes.

Yup, every other horse at the barn i work at have those Heidi boots… They do stand up to weather pretty well as far as I’ve noticed, and are nice cause they are easy on/off.

I also second those WeatherBetta t/o boots (they make some pretty good stuff, i think). A horse would have to do something fierce to put them in a replacable position.
