Turn Out Sheets Best Bang For your Buck?

I really like the Saxon 1200d blankets. The high neck model I got from Stateline has a little bit of a deeper drop than the regular necks, but I wasn’t too fond of the fit of the high neck opening. I used to care for a horse that shredded a Rambo (really) who did just fine in the Saxon 1200d. They hold up really well for the price.

If you want a longer drop, though, the SSTack blankets are a better choice.

Oh how I wish I could get Weatherbeeta sheets… those are the ones that got stolen. They were the next step up from Generos :frowning: I about cried when I realized they were gone. I have had such good luck with Weatherbeetas.

140 was probably a lower ball park for both. But I am trying to ensure I have some wiggle room since this is such a last minute issue it caught me just as my bills all got paid. With a windy and rainy prediction for the next weeks I am trying to get the pair covered! If I could wait till next pay I would get them their Weatherbeetas again.

I am really liking the SStack sheets so far, I am going to double measure to make sure on their sizing.

I am also going to check valley vet and a few others, see if anything else pops out!

I do thank everyone.

Here’s a sheet that’s actually in the OP’s price range. As mentioned before, Schneider’s blankets run very true to size, based on measurement (Weatherbeatas run a little large, IME, so you may have to drop down a size). I bought this particular sheet one winter when a yearling colt in my gelding’s pasture ribbed the entire hind end out of my horse’s more expensive sheet while playing. For the price, this is a good sheet. I ended up giving mine to a friend when I was able to buy a more expensive model (I prefer belly bands), and it’s still going strong seven years later, used exclusively on horses who are out 24/7.[/QUOTE]

Yep, totally agree on this one–great find. For that price, this is where I’d go.

For just a little more, there are these with a higher denier: http://www.sstack.com/horse-blankets-and-sheets_waterproof-turnout-sheets_contour-collar-euro/stormshield-contour-collar-euro-extreme-turnout-sheet/

I have one for each of mine, and they’re very nice. I really like the fit. Just didn’t use them a WHOLE lot last year, as we really went straight to the 80 gram sheets.

Here is the Genero 1200d for $60 in all the sizes you need:

If the 75 horse could wear a 72 here is the Freestyle 1200 for $49, that is a great deal: http://www.chicksaddlery.com/page/CDS/PROD/WB8377

I have some Schneiders turnouts. The fit is great, but the waterproofing really isn’t. The ones I have will soak through, so I have to keep my horse in when it rains/snows. Really disappointed, since I’d heard great things about them and the fit is really good.

Kensington 74 $59.99

Weathabeeta Freestyle 75 $49.99

Free Runner 74 $44.99

The Saxons are mini skirts - I’ve had that issue with them. Dover’s brand sheets are pretty good quality for the money - and the one time I had one rip within 6 months of buying it, they replaced it for free! I’ve had their sheets last through several seasons, and my horses are out 24/7.

That’s a good price for the Genero. I was about to post the same blanket but at Tractor Supply for a little over $70 each.

At $60 each I’m tempted to buy a couple for my horses!!!

If only they were horses that could squeeze sizes :frowning:

I think now I am torn on the SStack sheets or the Weatherbeeta generos

Okay so new slight question or two involving blanketsXD

Any methods to measuring a horse for a blanket if you have no help?

And say worse case scenario, would you say its better to have a blanket/sheet a size too big compared to small?

No help as in your arms don’t stretch far enough to measure the whole span of the horse? You could measure half way and mark it with chalk.

I’d go one size too big, rather than one size too small, especially since you’re in an area with an OK climate. Too small can rub, but one size too large isn’t going to be super obvious.

Yes ha I could never reach all the way down these girls ha. But the idea with chalk is a really good one! I would not have thought of it

The horse I think I would put into a size larger would be the bigger of the two mares, she is wide, all the way down her body. So I think a size larger would not be to insane for her.

Just wanted to chime in and say that the Schneider’s blankets are awesome for the price. I always used Weatherbeetas, but they don’t fit my Appy mare at all, so I switched to S’s for her and have been very happy with her Euro-fit sheet and mid-weight turnouts. I’m going to get the Stormshield high-neck turnouts for my new horse. They’re about half the price of comparable Kensingtons, nevermind Rambo. I love that the shoulder gusset goes way up above the point of the shoulder.

I live in a dry climate so waterproofness hasn’t been an issue, but if I waterproof all my blankets each year with tent waterproofing spray and have never had a wet horse.
