"Turning Loose"

Now for stopping :frowning: It’s not that I used a /ton/ of hand when stopping, but that little bit seems to be what he listened to. Well, that and my quite ‘and whoa’ where he usually starts to stop on ‘and’.[/QUOTE]

Somehow I’ve taught Mac to “downward shift” on my sigh/exhale. So if we’re cantering and I give a specific exhale, he’ll trot - if we’re trotting, he’ll walk - we’re not so accurate with the walk-halt, but he will slow down. I’ve gotten all my horses to do that - maybe it started on the lunge line, but they’ll do it under saddle, too!

Yeah, Cody will drop from a canter to a walk on a quiet “and”, but if I try and go from walk to halt without saying anything, he just keeps walking :frowning:
