TurtleNeck fly sheets. Reviews?

I am wondering if anyone here has any experience with the TurtleNeck fly sheets? I am mainly looking for a sheet that is durable, and most importantly does not rub. My horse gets rubs in almost every blanket, even while wearing a chest sleezy cover thing. Her current fly sheet is just a $20 cheapy no-name thing and it has rubbed her horribly. She has rubs not only on the points of her shoulders, but also on the flat, fleshy parts of her shoulders and on her flanks.

So, does anyone have any experience with the TurtleNeck fly sheets? Or do you have any other recommendations? Any help would be appreciated!

I have two, purchased at different times for different horses.
Pros: didn’t rub either of mine – the whole neck is elasticised, so it doesn’t seem to bind or twist the way some others do.
– durable, no rips after a season of use, which for a fly sheet, is pretty good
– well made/crafted. Xtra parts (leg strap, fleece)
– fine mesh prevented midges and other small biting flies

Cons: fabric is weird, it wrinkles when the horse lies down but doesn’t unwrinkle, so after a week or two the bottom is all folded up and never ‘relaxes’.
– it never really gets clean when you wash it. It stays kind of a yellow-ish dingy color.

Summary, not a bad fly sheet. I still use the two I have, but haven’t bought any new ones. Instead I get the Amigo brand and just replace every few months.
I also have the Mud Turtle, the rain sheet. That is a great sheet and much softer than the stiffer rain sheets I have from other brands.

I haven’t tried the turtleneck brand. However I did just buy a Smartpak Deluxe flysheet with the NoFlyZone repellent in the fabric. It fits my horse well and does not rub his shoulders like other fly sheets have. The fabric is very flexible but seems to be holding up well so far.

I have a few of them…love them…they are the only flysheets that don’t rib or rub the shoulders and are flexible around the neck and sursingles…the only con is the clips on the neck cover break …otherwise it’s my favorite sheet for material durability, and breathability …I also have a Rambo with insect shield -that one is also durable -a bit heavier material , but no rubs…I refuse to buy any more amigos…they rip almost instantly …I recently bought a couple shires flysheets that my feed store had because my others were still at the cleaners and they fit very tightly all over and especially in the shoulders , rubbed and ripped just after a few uses

Voice of dissent. My mare managed to destroy her turtle neck fly sheet. I could just kill her.

You can try a Bossy Bib underneath your current fly sheet and see if that will make it work? They are totally different than the “sleezy thing” you’ve tried …

I think putting that under a fly sheet would cause a horse to sweat horribly. It’s hot here.

Actually they don’t. They are totally breathable, lightweight and not lycra based at all

The white ones are specifically for use under fly sheets and many people in traditionally hot and/or humid States (TX, FL, NV, AZ, etc) use them throughout the hottest and/or most humid summer days under fly sheets

I love mine! I gave my Rambo sheet away since it fit my mare so poorly. Found one on eBay for cheap and I am in love. No rubbing, shifting, minimal sweating and it fits!

Thanks for starting this thread - I was thinking about trying TurtleNeck fly sheets. They look lightweight with a longer drop that would cover more of the belly.

I was wondering about the sizing with the elastic neck and the different measurements that they recommend on the website - does anyone know if they run large or small?

I love my TurtleNeck–but Element Farm said it best about the sheet looking quite dingy after a season.

My surcingle buckles also have a little rust, and the sheet is 2 years old (she lives in it for a few months a year, though).

Definitely opt for the TurtleNeck than placing an extra layer under a fly sheet! Sounds like TCF is doing some sales/marketing anyway…

The material on the other fly sheets ive found to be too heavy for the hottest months.

I have a TurtleNeck fly sheet on my 3yo warmblood filly in the DFW TX area. I’m very happy with it. She’s fairly hard on her clothing and there is a lot of pasture play. So far no rips or snags. Due to the million inches of rain we’ve had this year it has been quite humid and she does sweat a bit in this sheet, but I think she’d sweat if she weren’t wearing anything some days. It does become somewhat dingy after use, but I’m in it for effectiveness and durability. I don’t really care about pretty. The Velcro under the front straps doesn’t stay attached on her sheet, which is annoying but not a dealbreaker for me. She tore off and lost the wither fleece within 24 hours of wearing it the first time. I have 3 horses and they all have a different brand fly sheet, kind of on purpose kind of to try different sheets. I would for sure buy another TurtleNeck.
