If you could add one of the horses from the Olympics to your barn, which would it be?
-
If you could train with one of the riders, which one?
I am actually not ready to answer this myself…I have a few names in mind, but I’ll make a final decision after watching the jumping today!
- Any of them
- Any of them
I’m not picky

Well, yes, true. But if you just HAD to pick one. They are all amazing athletes for sure. If I could ride 1/2 as good as any one of those riders, I’d be thrilled!
-
Santano II., pretty and more of a dressage horse, just what I need
-
Carl Hester, he seems like he would be fun along with being an awesome rider and trainer.
-
Cortes C - he looks like he’d just be a blast to go out for a hack on, but could also go do the big classes. I’ve always loved how he (usually) walks into the ring for the big classes at WEF on a loose rein like some 20+ year old schoolmaster - he never seems like he’s a super hot horse…until he gets going. And I’ve heard that he’s a super love in the barn, so he’d probably be down for some quality snuggles.
-
Beezie. She seems to me like she would be tough, but kind and supportive.
-
Cortes C because I have a crush on him… and Santano II looks like fun.
-
Any of them because I could definitely learn a thing or two from anyone who qualified! Maybe Phillip Dutton is a top choice so I can learn some major stickability skills
HH Azur
Michael Jung (assuming the horse and trainer do not have to be from the same discipline)
Thibaut Vallette, if he speaks enough English that we both wouldn’t get frustrated.
Or Ingrid Klimke or William Fox-Pitt.
Horse would be that lovely big grey I fell in love during the Dressage. I think he was the 18yo Apollo Mio but not sure – he was the first big grey I saw in dressage. Even though he’s way too big for me!
There is a big pinto I’ve just seen online in the Modern Pentathlon article. I wouldn’t mind having him in my barn either! A pinto jumping at the Olympics! Cool.

- Ranco (eventing horse for Chile): I agree with the BBC commentators, he looks like he would be a blast to ride out hunting.
- Thibaut Vallette
- Sam! What a special eventing horse who, with Michael Jung, has accomplished so much
- Eric Lamaze
Lord Helpus nailed it. Although that eventer from France, with the silver hair. Yeah, he could stop by my barn any time. Oh, but wait, you were talking about horsemanship skills…
-
Chile’s Ranco or maybe Russian’s Gerza (the chestnut mare who kindly trotted a 4* fence in the water because that’s what her crazy rider wanted)
-
Mark Todd!
-
I would want to ride Ranco and just plain have Billy the Biz. He looks like a big pony and I just want to pet him and admire him a lot.
-
Michael Jung. I would settle for watching him ride and school his horses at home.
For eventing, the Japanese horse Duke of Cavan. He looked like he was thinking “just steer, I got the rest” all the way around the course. What a sweetie!
Ingrid Klimke. Her father was so amazing that I always look out for her and she’s great.
I’ll make my show jumping picks later if I get to answer twice! No dressage; those lofty movers make my back cringe just watching!
Ingrid Klimke! She is amazing.
Not sure about the horse. I like that pinto Rackonteur posted. I have a thing for pintos. In the text it says that riders are assigned random horses, so I am.assuming that it is some Brazilian horse?
Sam is a pretty special horse, but not sure I’d want him in my barn… He should stay right where he is.
Oh, and extra points for hotness: Alex Hua Tian
HH Azur hands down! She could be my A/O hunter/derby horse, right?
As far as riders go, I would say Beezie. Did anyone see her ride in the Equitation Challenge class at WEF? She was incredible and it was cool to see a lot of professionals in a setting like that. It also seems like she could cure my chronic-adult-adding-strides disease. Then again, I probably won’t be adding strides on Azur in my A/O classes.
I second Eric Lamaze.
