OK, I have finally bought a trailer that I think will be great! It’s a Gore stock combo, rear ramp for loading, side ramp, and a sliding divider inside. I had recessed tie downs installed in the area where I will put my carriage, but not sure what to get to tie down with. I also had a winch installed. My carriage arrives in two weeks, and I want to be sure and have the right equipment when I pick it up. Thanks for your help!
Go to any car parts store. or motorcycle store, or hardware store, and they should have a good assortment of tiedowns (the straps, not just the tiedown rings they hook onto)
Ratchet straps & something to pad things with.
You don’t want paint or varnish rubbed off by the ratchet straps.
I use 4 straps to hold the cart in place - run through the wire arms of the seat not the wood spindle parts - hooked to the sides of the trailer as I don’t have tiedown rings.
Foam wrapped around the arms between wire & nylon ratchet strap.
I use pool noodles on my shafts, wrapping the tips in in foam duct-taped to hold in place (tape on the foam, NOT the tips). Slit the length of the noodle & slip over the shafts. I’ve also seen people use material sewn into tubes for this.
I have an old quilt I use to cover the cart in transit - keeps stuff blown in off the painted finish.
Use something to chock the wheels too - in front & behind - so motion is limited.
I haul in a stock trailer too, cart goes upfront, gate between mini & cart.
Since everything is mini-sized I can lift the cart on - no ramp - myself.
Shipping boots work well for padding and ratchet straps.
All you need to tie is the wheels. Hook them fore and aft to prevent movement.
however since you have a kutzmann I’m 99.9% sure it (like mine) has a place to attach tie downs just inside the wheels.
I got some wonderful ratchet tie downs (specifically for ATVs, etc) from walmart called Reese carry power retractable ratchet straps and they are Da Bomb. Idiot proof and easy to tighten and loosen. I also picket up some “soft loop tie down straps” so there are no scratches on the carriage (and because I go with overkill, I connect the soft loops to the retractables with a super heavy duty (load appropriate) carabiner snap so it’s easy to unhook
I have 4 of these carriage tie downs that are fleece padded. Driving Essentials sells them: https://www.drivingessentials.com/carriage_accessories_tie_down.php
Most helpful, thanks!
I bought mine from them too. They are wonderful straps that protect the cart during transport.
Now, I’m feeling dense. How do you use the fleece tie downs?
Fleece part wraps around carriage parts - seat, shafts, etc - then you attach your ratchets/tie-downs to the rings.
