Type of shirt when jackets are waived…..

Since it has been SO hot, many shows have waived jackets. I am normally one that always wears a jacket anyway but wanted to hear what shirts you ladies wear when jackets are waived. Most folks I see wear short sleeve riding shirts with a collar - my question is:

Does anyone wear a nice clean white polo shirt instead?

The rules start a shirt with a collar, but not a t-shirt. I only ask because I would prefer to wear a white polo instead of a riding shirt because they are a little thicker and look nicer (they cover up things a little better!).

I used to wear a white polo shirt, but now I wear a technical fabric riding shirt.

It gets so hot here, that a polo shirt just holds the sweat and makes me hotter. So I wear the same shirt I’d wear with a jacket, just unzip the collar and don’t put on a stock tie. No having to switch shirts, and it’s cooler!

I showed Sunday in a grey polo shirt.

Formal white long-sleeved shirt.

Here everyone wears solid colored Kastel Denmark or EIS shirts. . .

I prefer a technical fabric riding shirt in white, simply because it is easier to pack for a show when I know my shirt will work either with or without a jacket. Basically I’m lazy . That being said, if I know I won’t need a jacket, I love Nike golf shirts like this and this in light colors because they stay tucked in, wick well, and they do double duty as work shirts. I usually buy them at the Nike outlet or Ross/TJ Maxx.

Technical fabric, long sleeve. I haunt TJMaxx etc to find them in the “golf” or active section for half the price of the riding shirts.
I also have a nice vest from Arista that I wear… reduces the marshmallow effect.

Remember, plain color - no patterns. No color blocking. I have been told that even piping (like some of the shirts have, on princess seams) can get you in trouble with a very strict judge.

Solid color technical long sleeved shirt in general. I have short sleeved white or white with piping shirts for under my jacket, and when I’m surprised by the heat and jackets being waived (such as this past weekend where my horse and I were both dripping sweat, even without the jacket!) I wear the white shirts.

I have definitely seen polos, and they look quite nice and acceptable. With the formality of braids and the rest of the nice turnout, they just add a tidy touch.

ditto, technical fabric long sleeve mock neck. Looks flattering, neat and presents as athletic.

This! I agree - polo shirts can really trap sweat. You can find white and some light colored shirts in technical fabrics. I used to scribe a lot when I lived in Houston and jackets were pretty much always waived in the summer. I have never heard a comment about any solid colored riding shirts.

Here in NC, many riders wear black technical-fabric vests over their shirts (short or long sleeve) and it looks very nice (coats are also usually waived here). Also, I just showed last weekend in the Kerrits Koat - it was joyously light and wicked sweat amazingly well. If you really like the coat look, consider this coat.

Dark navy technical fabric polo shirt

I have always found a brightly colored Hawaiian Shirt lends a festive touch. Add a Lei and you simply can’t go wrong!!!

I wear my regular show shirt - I have a fondness for the Irrideon zip neck shirts - they are lightweight and inexpensive (I find them for about $30). I don’t change my shirt, but a polo is perfectly acceptable. And I like a lightweight vest - another vote for Arista. I haven’t worn a jacket this entire year! Championships are next month, I need to have a jacket for that show!

Do the shirts have to be tucked in?

I showed in a coral technical fabric polo from Dick’s at my last show. I had a white one with me. But other people were wearing bright colors. I have a white horse with a white half pad and tan breeches so figured the coral would look better than the white.
I love the technical polos. I found them hard to get a color other than white that was subdued. Coral was the best of the bunch. There was hot pink, lime green, royal blue, neon yellow. I couldn’t even find light blue or light pink.

Bonus is that the coral polo looks great with shorts and with a maxi dress I have that has the same coral in it. I wore the polo to fly to Texas when it was 104 degrees. Cheaper than a riding technical shirt and more uses.

I dont know if there is a rule but untucked shirts look so messy I would not do it!

except the rule says no patterns

DR120.8"…shirt with sleeves and collar, without neckwear, and without decoration…" no mention of pattern or color.

I wear my show coat anyway, even if it’s waived/optional. No one wants to see my muffin top in the show ring.

But if I were to show without a coat, I would wear a technical fabric show shirt, in a solid color, tucked in, with a belt .

Just a personal preference for a solid color, rather than white shirt/white breeches.

Sun shirt, long sleeves with collar. Dressy, yet cool fabric. Worked great in AZ for schooling show and cubbing.
