Who uses this and what kind of results have you seen? I’m thinking of adding it to my horse’s SmartPak. Do you really see a lot of muscle-building difference? I’m having a very hard time building my mare’s hind end, and this is a horse that used to be known as “Bootylicious!” She’s Training level eventing fit, including trot and gallop sets and lots of lateral and cavaletti work, 5-6 days a week.
I tried it, but didn’t notice a difference. Its cheap though, so if it works thats great, if it doesn’t, no biggie!
Dressagediosa on here uses a lot of Uckele products and I think this one in particular she uses on at least one of her horses.
Drop her a line and see what she says.
What’s the rest of the diet?
I have been (very nicely) chastised a few times by JB for still having my mare on it now that she is on a RB which provides enough lysine but I love the Tri Amino so much it is hard to give it up. I experienced INCREDIBLE results in a very short time when she was in between a full 5-6lbs of grain and the 2lbs of ration balancer and I put her on this supplement.
If your horse is on a balanced diet you probably won’t see a huge change but if your horse is like my mare and is not getting enough amino acids for whatever reason, then the results can be quite impressive.
She gets 2 lbs. of Nutrena SafeChoice 2 x day and free choice grass supplemented by hay if needed.
I had her on RationPlus for about a year trying to shrink her “hay belly” look (she has foaled, and it’s been hard to get her belly trim again), but it doesn’t seem to work as well as it used to.
All the digestive supplements I’ve looked at seem more geared to ulcers than improving thriftyness (she’s not unthrifty, per se, but everything just seems to go to her belly), and the Tri-Amino caught my eye since I’ve been pondering her general lack of muscle building in the hind end. The testimonies seem to point to a development of the topline, but I would assume if she’s amino deficient it would affect muscling everywhere?
Worked great!
It made quite the difference in my mare. Her topline looked weak after I weaned her foal so I added this to her diet and saw improvement in a few weeks. I’m keeping her on it.
Tried it, did nothing. But at 4lb per day of SafeChoice, is she getting enough to meet her nutritional requirements? What does she weigh and what kind of work is she in?
Plenty of correct work and a bit of alfalfa has always worked better for me than any supplements for weight/muscle. I’ve got my gelding on SmartMuscle Mass right now (free trial of it), and I’ve not noticed any difference in him at all on it either.
4lb is probably the lowest end of the SC you’d feed, below that you would very likely want to add nutrition.
Additional lysine, either straight up, or in Tri-Amino, whatever, is only as good as the horse is deficient LOL
As meupatdoes said, I did have two of my horses on Tri-Amino for a very long time. It made little difference on my young gelding, but my mare absolutely TRANSFORMED on it. Truly a miracle product for her. I used Cell Mass first, and found that she bulked up quickly, but did not get any better as far as endurance. The Tri-Amino dramatically improved her actual strength - she could collect better and work longer without fatigue.
Ditto to my mare and actually my gelding doing well on it. I do feed the recommended amounts of my feed and they get good coastal and very nice O/A while out on very nice bahia/bermuda for 20 hours a day. My mare has been in VERY light work this year and within the last month, Ive been legging her back up as my friend now started leasing her. With just 2 weeks of 3 days a week w/t/c sets and now my friend riding her w/t for 2 weeks, she looks almost beefy (anyone who has seen pics of Layla knows beefy isnt a word to go with her as shes very danity). Ive been very impressed as I fed straight lysine before.
For my young horse, I have him on it and even though I was only riding him once every 1-2 weeks, he was still bulking up with my trainer commenting on whatever I was doing to keep doing it as he was filling out nicely. So yeh, I see a difference though even through Feed XL my horses diets are balanced.
I’m thinking of trying this for my senior mare, who is looking ribby and her tail vertebrae are poking up. I’l also throw a flake of alfalfa to her once a day. She gets orchard grass hay, crappy drought-stricken grass pasture (nothing, nutritionally), and TC senior. It might just be her age (26), but, I’ll give it a try. It stinks, though. Jeez. All summer her meals have stunk like the anti-fly garlic supplement (which, since the flies now are swarming her grain bucket, I’m going to dump) and now it will stink like… whatever TriAmino stinks like.
I use Horsetech’s Nutramino, which is pretty much identical. I’m happy with the product, however, I don’t use it to increase muscle mass per se. I use it to maintain the level of muscling my horses have when being fed a soy-based ration balancer while receiving just a vit/min supplement instead.
For what it’s worth, I’ve found most horses to look sort of “meh” while on the SafeChoice line of feed. They never seem to look quite as good as they could while eating.
My TB has been in a steady amount of work. No changes. 8 pounds a day of Nutrena Fuel and 2 pounds a day of Amplify. On a whim, I added Tri Amino to his diet. I was sick for 2 weeks but when I got to the barn (he had been on it maybe 4 weeks) I went holy crap! His neck and chest and everything was noticeably muscled up. But he is a beefy TB. So his tendency is to get muscled but this really threw him over the edge.
I noticed a massive difference on tri amino.
I have noticed a big transformation in a mare I am fostering. She is a 17 year old TB who has had foals and who had been sitting out-to-pasture for a couple years. You could have called her a borderline sway back. She wasn’t starving by any means, but her spine was very prominent. Now after a couple months on tri-amino she still has a curve to her long back, but you would definitely not consider it a sway.
She gets grass and grass hay, six pounds of wet Safe Choice Senior, a couple pounds of alfalfa, a glug of vegetable oil, msm and 2/3 c Omega Horseshine (I have everyone on OHS) and the tri-amino. She looks great. I haven’t been able to ride like I’d hoped this summer, but I’m hoping some long and low riding and lots of transitions will help her topline further.
I’ve also seen nice results in my 18y/o TB gelding. It’s also been great for his feet.

Me too
To those of you feeding it, have you had any problems with the horse turnings its nose up at feeding time? I have a picky eater and would like to try it, however she gets finicky. Sometimes she’s good with supplements and sometimes not.
And hours pass,
With picky eaters I tend to add new supplements in a little at a time. This gets them used to the new smell/flavor without overwhelming their pallet.
It is pretty stinky stuff.
