Udder Pictures ;)

Does anyone have more udder pictures in an album that I can look at? I was looking through some of the past newbie threads, but getting bogged down and can’t find them specifically.

My mare is 324 days and has been on banamine and regumate as there was some indication of possible fetal distress a couple weeks ago. Better safe than sorry.

Here is my mare today. I took the ph of the milk and looks about 7. Definitely not clear yellow anymore. Not really white, but thicker. I tasted it and it really didn’t taste like much, but not sure what I’m supposed to be tasting??

What do you guys think? The mare isn’t in my backyard, but five miles down the street and bless her little heart, I’m in the middle of my finals week.

This is her 6th foal, my first and I’m more than a little paranoid by now.

Getting close…will probably fill in a bit more in the front but when the crease in the middle disappears in the back half you are close…and they can do that in just hours. Got one here that has the crease filled in but not nipples (at least that was the case about 2 hours ago!)…nipples filling in around base but ends still sitting there like buttons. Thicker/whiter is progress as well…taste should go to faintly to fairly sweet.

There are 3 photos in the above link of my mare when in foal with her last one. The pics are at 310 days and she foaled at 327 days.

This should be the public link to my album documenting my Missouri Fox Trotter’s progress, from the time I realized, oh, my new trail mare is REALLY FAT…

I actually believe I’ll have a foal tonight.

I actually believe I’ll have a foal tonight.[/QUOTE]

Looking like I might get one as well…buttermilk buckskin foundation bred QH mare that I bred, in foal to bay tobiano Doc Bar grandson. Went from NO udder visible from behind (but looking pretty slack) this morning to “bubble” of udder showing below vulva and between thigh cheeks at noon. Crease in the back half was gone this morning and nipples about half filled in with tips just still being buttons. Maiden so have no previous pattern to go by. Off her hay a bit at noon. Headed out to check again in a few.

Thanks for posting the photos.

Epona–I hope your Apple foals tonight! Holy cow, how much longer could she hold on??

Donni was very PO’d at all the attention today which is pretty unlike her. Went off feed for a while but was chowing down this evening and back begging for cookies. I feel for her as I can see the foal trying to tapdance or something in there.

Good question! She’s spent the entire day today pacing, pawing, butt rubbing, and for some reason, standing at the back door and neighing at me.

I find it hard to believe she’ll hold on past tonight.

She looks pretty good for the number of days in foal, I would call that about80% “full” by my standards… and if the milk tastes bland that is also consistent with the bag size IMHO. If she has departed from the 8.0+ ph level you are probably within about 10 days I would guess but each one does their own thing of course. Some of ours creep down and some fall pretty quickly. But considering the bag and milk taste/properties I would guess 10-14 days barring any placentitis issues, etc. Any idea of how long she normally goes?

Star, nice boobs ;).

Unfortunately I don’t have any idea as her breeder of four of the foals is deceased and the last person that bred #5 has no idea. I think the foal just showed up one day in that case.

I wasn’t sure as she’s been very restless and very uncomfortable. Looks colicy except well…she’s eating, drinking, and urinating and she’s on regumate/banamine per the vets.

Thanks Signature for any thoughts. It’s hard since we thought maybe placentitis except the measurement was borderline/normal. She just looks so uncomfortable and I could do without the laying down and flopping around all the time good grief.

The other mares I helped foal out were so much more normal in behavior and I never dealt with them until 340+ days and it just seems so much more personal when it’s my mare…

amastrike–my husband thinks I’m a creepo with these pictures. Maybe I should change the background on his laptop and see what he thinks then!

LOL. My mare is dripping milk now. Taking her sweet time getting down to the real job.
