Ulcer Treatment - Equestra vs. Abler

Hi all,
I’m dealing with ulcers in my new horse - it’s been about 10 years since I last treated ulcers and things have changed. I’m currently treating with the injectable omeprazole from BET Pharmacy, but I recently learned that there is an effective granule being used in Australia called Equestra Equine Omeprazole. When I googled it, they looked very similar to the Abler Abprazole product (do we still refer to those as “pop-rocks”??). I used the Abler product a number of years ago and was pleased enough with the results and I know a lot of people on this forum found it helpful also. I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this Australian version, any new feedback on the Abler product (is it still effective), or do people use Nexium instead. Any thoughts for someone who’s been out of the ulcer treating game for a while?

hi! I don’t have a lot of experience with the Australian version of Abler products. But I just wanted to mention that since you’re in Australia, you do have access to Protek GI to help treat and keep them at bay once done with omeprazole. I would highly recommend it, we’ve seen a lot of different types of cases respond well, even some tough pyloric ulcers.

No idea about the Equestra, but I’ve used both Abler and Nexium. Since I’m in the US, Nexium is easier and cheaper to get (my Abler has been rejected or “lost” by USPS multiple times), so I’ve used that ever since trying it.

I’ve had good luck with Nexium, and have had a few people in the barn try it with good luck. Abler works too, but their satchets are a PITA to open. Especially in winter with gloves

We’ve been using Abler products for years. The shipping has improved because it seems they are warehousing in the US now. It used to takes weeks to get product and the USPS would lose it on occasion. Now I get it in days. We use both the omeprezole and sucralfate products from abler.

Can I hijack for a second?
I am used to ordering from horseprerace but they have been out of omeprazole paste for at least a month. Do you think the abler omeprazole is the same?

I used the Abler paste on two different horses, one of which I had scoped, and it was effective within 30 days on both of them.

We use Nexium all the time here. And follow it up with Gut-X to help sustain, which has made a big difference for a lot of our horses.
