Ulcergard before trailering

I am having a horse hauled from several states away and the current owner picked up some tubes of Ulcergard for her. How much should she be given per day and for how long? Apparently there are 4 doses per tube, can the same tube be used more than once or should a new tube be used each time?

1/4 tube a day for “normal” sized horses, beginning three days prior to travel, continuing through getting settled in new home, is safe bet. One tube lasts four days for the four doses, it does not go bad.

Enjoy your new horse!!

Thank you! She is a draft cross, 1500 lbs…would that still be considered “normal” size? Or should she have more?

Big girl! You might want to go up a little  1/3rd tube every day?

Is the dose calibrated in pounds? If so, match the pounds. If not, and “one dose fits all,” then follow the dosing directions. If you are concerned ask your vet or call the maker.

Ulcerguard is marked in doses (1/4 of a tube), and it notes that one dose is for horses 600 to 1200 lbs. Over 1200 lbs. should get a double dose.

Start three days or more before trailering.
