Ulcers in Dogs?

This goes a ways back with our mini Aussie. In 2015 or 2016, she ended up very ill needing to stay a couple nights at the vet clinic for hydration and what not. After that, she started having bouts where she would get a gurgly stomach and wouldn’t want to eat at meal time which was twice a day. I started feeding her 3 times a day which seemed to work.

Not immediately before that happened, but close, there had been some sink drain backup that came out the drain in the garage (it was weird, don’t ask lol). We had used draino but again, it wasn’t immediately before her issues started. We thought it cleared whatever the clog was as it had stopped a while before it started up again. Anyways, she has gotten into some of the drain yuck the second time it backed up, but we caught her almost immediately.

Yesterday she had the gurgles after a long while of not, and it dawned on me that what if it was being caused by ulcers that never have been resolved ? If she did ingest come chemical residue back when that happened it seems like maybe that could be the case? And keeping her stomach more full seeming to help?

I don’t know if I’m putting too much of a horse spin on it but are dog ulcers common? Do they scope like horses? Are they treated similarly? We’ve got to take both in for their annual shots soon and I plan to talk to the vet about it but wanted to see if anyone here might have a similar experience.

Editing to add, our vet was aware of the gurgles and 3 meals a day and said if that helps, just keep up with it.

She was also diagnosed with Lyme last year. Up until then, I had used Frontline on both dogs and I do remember pulling a tick off her at some point but can’t recall if it was before she had to go into the vet for the overnights. It’s possible she had lyme much earlier given that frontline is basically ineffective. But that could be in play too :woman_shrugging:t2:

Hi, yes dogs can have ulcers and yes, they can be scoped like horses, ask me how I know…
My greyhound was suspected of having ulcers but we didn’t have to scope him (luckily) because he was good just with some treatment. In his case he was on a cure for arthritis and one of the pills was bad for his stomach

I hope he’s doing better!

What was the course of treatment you used for the ulcers?

Yes now he’s fine and eating as a horse, thanks! First vet suggested to give him homemade meal for a while and we gave him a human medicine called Pariet.
