Um--how accurate is the Del Mar pedigree query/info site?

A fellow boarder just got an OTTB gelding she says is named Slewy Dewey Delite. She didn’t know much about him, but knew I’m a thoroughbred/racing fan and told me what she could remember…his name, his sire’s name, and that his dam is something Gaea.

I looked him up on the Del Mar website to get some info to pass on to her, and everything matches her description–name, sire, dam, color–except (and this is a big “except”) it says Slewy Dewey Delite is a filly.

How accurate is this site? Is it just misentered info, or is the person who gave the horse to the boarder confusing his solid bay OTTBs? Do any of you have access to more reliable databases (or can direct me to one) so I can see where the mistake is? I don’t want to go tell the boarder this isn’t the horse they say it is until I know for sure.

That name is a horse registered with the Jockey Club as a filly.

In answer to your other question, Pedigree Query is riddled with inaccuracies. There’s some valuable information there but unfortunately it’s mixed in with quite a bit of garbage.

Thank you, both of you. Is there a more reliable online database where I can find out info on (former) racehorses?

Now I’ve got to tell this fellow boarder that her horse is decidedly not Slewy Dewey Delite. Well, all I can do is share what I learned; she can do with it as she pleases. As he’s a pleasure horse now, I don’t think it matters all that much. FTR, he neither doesn’t have a lip tatoo, or its somehow unreadable, so that’s not an option.

Could it have been a sibling? Maybe the '89 version?

NORTHERN GAEA, 1984, Canadian Gil- Gaea by Binary.

2003 Slewy Dewey Delite,Gr/Ro,f,T. G. Dewey Unraced

Oh geez, I didn’t realize that Slewy Dewey Delite is registered as a grey. This gelding is decidedly not that horse…he’s a nondescript solid bay. Wow, wrong on two counts there.

And Jessi P, thanks for giving that info, but since none of those are bays, they can’t be him either. Huh.

Where did she get the idea that the horse’s name is Slewy Dewey Delite?

There exists a Slewey Dewey of male persuasion, purportedly bay and unraced.

I used a service to look up TB pedigrees years ago and can’t find any of the printouts to verify the name but I think it might be www.equineline.com

You can always check the BC database for missing horses, they have most registered foals in there. Unfortunately they don’t give color or sex so it is limited.
https://nominations.breederscup.com/bcFoalVerificationForm.cfm

Name: Slewey Dewey
Sire: Slewvescent
Dam: Seductive Baby
DamSire: Solford
Year Foaled: 2003
Area Foaled: CA
Status: Not Nominated

You can also go to the Jockey Club and search through their online name book (of taken names) and try to match up a name you only have part of by checking for registered names and then checking them in the BC database.

OK, yes it is www.equineline.com I just used it to run a 5 generation pedigree. You do not need to have a membership, you can buy each individual report if you wish. And they have produce reports, at least for mares (didn’t notice if they did it for sires) so that might help you a bit too. You receive instant results online, it’s very fast.

Did your friend get any pedigree papers with that horse?

Have the JC do a tattoo search. I think it’s about $35. (or it used to be)

Theres also tbhorsepedigree.com which is very accurate, but with not nearly the numbers of horses. Its being added to daily, however.

Nothing to add other than that pedigree query has not been associated with Del Mar in many, many years. Nearly 8, if memory serves.

Hmm summerhorse…I’m wondering if that’s him, Slewey Dewey, and she somehow researched the wrong horse…? She didn’t get any papers with him, so she’s getting his info from whoever gave him to her. Maybe that person remembered it was Slewey Dewey something, looked it up, and went with the wrong name. Who knows.

Her horse is now housed in a different barn–she was at our place temporarily until a barn was finished being made where she keeps her other horse. I still see her around occasionally and will share what you all have discovered. Thanks so much!

I got an email from Equineline today saying they are offering 5 cross pedigrees for free now. http://www.equineline.com/Free-5X-Pedigree.cfm
