Un-Wanted Christmas Puppies

We have all heard the stories. For whatever reasons someone gives someone a puppy for Christmas and it doesn’t work out.

Thank everything holy they don’t keep it.

Believe me the more I know people the more I love animals.

I currently have two dogs. One was pulled out of a kill shelter on his last morning. I got up at 4:00 and drove almost to S.C. to get him. He’s a golden cross. He’s about 2 years old. The other is a Heeler/ Boarder Collie/ maybe something else (maybe coyote) , she’s about 13 and a Reservations rescue dog and rules the roost. This is why no other female dogs. She doesn’t like to share her boys.

I don’t NEED another dog. However I WANT what everyone wants, or so I believe in my heart. A young (easier adjustment) male Golden Retriever.

So, if anyone know a someone who get the un-wanted G.R. as a present this year I have a home for him. I am in Arizona, but I am sure we could get him here.

Thanks

Are you looking for a puppy? Or will a young male dog do? I have lots of rescue friends…I’ll let you know what I find.

Young dog would be fine, I a big fan of 6 mos. to a year. I figure that a lot of dogs will be looking for homes in the New Year. I’ve been told there is a flood of young dogs going to rescues, shelters, and the pound late Jan. and Feb.

…gaaack…human stupidity at it’s finest…wish i had more room/time/money/energy

Puppies are not presents, they are a commitment.

Ugh! We got our last Doberman pup right before Xmas. (Sadly, at the age of 13, we lost her to an inoperable tumor a couple of years ago.)

A rural puppy-mill-type breeder dropped her off at the local pound a few days before Xmas telling them to euthanize her because she had too much white on her chest for them to be able to sell her as an AKC-registered puppy. Can you imagine the pure cruelty of some people??? They had specifically timed this breeding so the puppies would be ready to be sold for Xmas.

I just happened to be at the pound at the right time, & too much white or not, little “Liesl” got a for-life home for Xmas.

In my observations it’s usually around the puppies’ ages of 4-7 months that people get sick of them and the work they require. They’re teething between 4-6 months so chewing on everything, their energy level is high and finally they’re getting the endurance and stamina to match… Add in Christmas puppy timing, and typically the weather is crappy so housebreaking is extra annoying, and people won’t be taking their dogs out for walks on bad days so the energy has no outlet.

Generally, Christmas gift puppies are recipes for disaster…

Keep an eye out for pups even through March, April. Unfortunately, people don’t go ahead and dump them while they’re still little and roly poly puppies… They wait for them to be awkward and gangly in-betweeners.

Not bitter, not bitter.

Still looking.

How about these guys?

I could get him part way to you.

I really don’t need another dog. However if someone knows anyone who received a male Golden Retriever ( no mixes) and it just isn’t working out, I might have a home for him.

I have references.

Thanks.
