Undumpable water bowls.

So our German shepherd/husky mix puppy is obsessed with water. It’s to the point we can’t put water bowls outside with her. She is a little better inside, but still tries to dump water bowls.

I always just used a big plastic bowl for water. This puppy dumps it in 5 seconds. I tried putting a ceramic bowl out and that took about 10 seconds.

I even tried putting a kiddie pool to play in and the ceramic bowl out. She will play in the pool then dump the ceramic bowl. I would just leave the kiddie pool to drink out of but after 5 minutes the water is so dirty from her jumping in and out of it.

We love to keep the dogs out to play on nice days.

Oh and those auto refil bowls with the big water jugs don’t work. My other dog(sheltie) is terrified of them.

Any other ideas? I’m going crazy. She is one of the weirdest dogs I have owned

This is the type of bowl I switched to:

I got mine at Walmart.

I had an issue with Amber (@ 8 -10 weeks) brining me the water dish when it was only partially empty. I kept getting wet and laughing. Which of course only encouraged the little monster.

Now at 2 yrs old, she just brings me her food dish when it’s empty. She loves the clang the metal bowls make when she drops them.

I second cnigh’s choice.

We use flat-sided stainless steel buckets of various sizes that clip with a double-ended snap to the fence or whatever.

You must keep it in the shade or it will become hot.

Some dogs don’t seem to do well with plastic or rubber dishes, and they seem a little more difficult to keep clean.

Yes, I’ve had puppies who love to play in the water! Mine usually outgrow the habit although I’ve had a few who love to submerge their entire head in the bucket. Then of course they must go to the nearest human and “share” their wet beards!

I’ve heard that this is because water actually has magical properties and the wolfhounds want to share these magical qualities with their loved ones.

She still dumps the flat sided water bowls. I have tried so many different times. The water is kept in a shady area… Until she carries the bowl across the yard into sunny areas. :o

Her favorite toy is water bottles as well. She was just outside upset that her pool wasn’t filled up

Every single dog I have owned has been terrified of water, so I have no idea how to deal with a dog that is obsessed with it.

How about a kiddie pool for playing but one of those giant hampster bottle things for drinking?

How does she dump or carry the bucket away if the handle is clipped to something? With a large enough bucket and the right clips, I have a hard time seeing this…

I usuaally clip it wither high, kind of like you would do for a horse.

We had a lab growing up who did the same thing. The solution was to put out a bucket of water with bricks in the bottom. He did try to retrieve the bricks from the bottom but he couldn’t quite pick them up.

Buddy Bowls, Amazon has them. Truly spillproof, your puppy shouldn’t be able to carry them away.

She paws at the bowls. She loves to paw at water and dump her head in biting the water.

I didn’t think to get something horse sized and tie it. I might own one of those that may work. It’s always a plus if I don’t have to spend more Money.

I’m taking her to a dog park (now that she finally has all of her shots) that has mini lakes for the dogs. I think she might be in heaven with that. I’m hoping she will outgrow this, but I am thinking not.

I have to use a crockpot insert. Because one of my cats thinks it just hilarious to dump over anything else and flood the kitchen. (where is the disgusted look emoji?)

Go to your local thrift store and see of you can find one. Also, try a used Le Creuset stewpot. Also very heavy.

Or put a brick or big ol’ heavy stone in bottom of regular bowl.

Knock those over Puppy!
