Unicorn horn for pictures?

So my teen would like to have pictures with our horses dressed as unicorns with some of her friends.

Has anyone purchased off Etsy or made their own?? I have three equines to coordinate.

Also anyone know how to make the pretty floral wraps around the neck??

I did this last year for a hunter pace! I purchased the horn on Amazon. It was advertised as 7 inches but it was actually closer to 4.75… they measured it on a slant versus actual height of the horn. :joy: so vet your measurements carefully as this one was cosmically small.

I purchased fake garlands of roses that were for weddings/events. The whole thing was reasonable as far as costs go — I think I spent less than $30 all in and was pleased with the results. I wove the rose garland into the bridle and part of the mane. I used brown electrical tape to secure it to the bridle and bits of the mane.

It was tricky getting the horn to stay in the right place. I tried braiding it into the forelock but ended up just taping it with electrical tape to a browband.

I got one off of Etsy years ago. Here’s a photo of Stormy wearing it. He was NOT amused lol. It was difficult to get it to stay in the correct place (it kept drooping) and afterwards I had to go in with photoshop to make it look more realistic. In the future I’d probably just photoshop one on a horse instead of having one IRL.

Here’s an unedited photo of it on him. He thought the grass was much more important than the photoshoot.

It’s for a group of 13/14 year old girls that want to get all dressed up like princesses and have have photos with unicorns, like a big fairy tale.

I’m happy to entertain and want to make sure my horses look the part, even if I have to sacrifice their forelock or have something made.

If you get one like I have, maybe cut the sides off of it and leave just the top strap so you can ‘hide’ it in the forelock. Then use something sticky (maybe just some double sided tape, or some Vaseline) to secure the base of the horn to the face. Then you wouldnt have to edit every photo.

They are really easy to make! I was super bored and made quite a few, my favorite being a Christmas tree. I wrote a blog post (no, this is not spam nor is it monitized!) so maybe you could make and customize the ribbons, etc.

That being said my horse was fine with it, others at the barn highly suspicious! Haven’t tried it on my new guy, he has not earned unicorn status yet.

I got one, I swear off of Etsy, about 5 years ago, but I cannot find a record of it. It’s quite solid and about 8” high. I had the same problem as some others, with getting it to sit up high enough. Mine came with several white/silvery streamers and black elastics to tie the horn to something. It worked pretty well for what I was doing. I’m going to try to attach two photos, one on the horse and one taken just now of the horn itself. (It’s very dirty right now because I haven’t used it since this photo shoot)

I would say it is similar to this link:
Unicorn horn
At least in construction. This one has the straps for the head stall like another poster shared

We made one 30 yrs ago out of a foam cone we shaped into a spiral horn then sprayed it with mother of pearl and sprinkled glitter on it. Glued it to a white nylon strip and attached it to the halter.

We used to do pony rides and had the option to dress up as a unicorn for parties.

Then, like Beowolf says, we used fake flowers to make garlands, tulle, and that rough paper I think its call raffia ??? but we used the really wide stuff and created a breast plate out of it. All of which can be purchased at Michaels.

This will be a fun project!

I think I found this horn on Amazon. I know I wouldn’t have paid much for it. It’s a headband with narrow elastic that I put around my horse’s ears. This is him sporting his horn.

ETA: Found the horn on Amazon:

I got one in a mystery box from QHP, I think. It has a Velcro band that goes around the brown and, and stayed pretty well l. this is the pretty mare I leased before my current ride

Here’s my 4.75 inch horn :joy:

It’s shorter than his ears. To compensate I bundled up his forelock in a fat braid so it looked taller than it really was. I seem to remember my dad doing that when I was a kid to get me into a roller coaster I was too short for… :joy:

daughter took her horse to middle school for her book report on Justin Morgan… horse kind of liked the attention, ended up coming back so often that when daughter graduated the middle school principal wanted to give her a horse a diploma also

Decided to go to Michael’s this weekend and try my hand at making some unicorn horns.

If they turn out hinky, I’ll still have time to order them.

I’ll post pics hopefully of the horses wearing them.
