Unique horse-related injuries

Monday I was baking horse treats for my IR horse. I had two pans going at once and to save time, tried to take them both out at the same time. One tray tilted down and hit my leg, burning the inside of my knee. So I have found a new horse-related way to hurt myself besides the bruises, fractures, concussions, and dislocations I’ve suffered over the years: BAKING.

Hahaha! Great thread (and I hope your horses enjoyed their treats!)

I had my horses at home when I was in high school and we had one of those old boom box radios on a ledge over the barn door. I was finishing barn chores after school one day and when I closed that door, the wind got ahold of it and it slammed, causing the radio to land directly on my head.

Instantly, blood was rushing down my face… I ran to the house and called my mom (who is a doctor) who told me to lay in the bathtub (so I wouldn’t bleed all over the house…thanks mom HA!) until she got home to stitch me up. I remember begging her not to shave my head where I needed sutures, which made her job SO much more difficult since I couldn’t possibly be a teenager with a bald spot

Lol! GREAT story! And what a great mom! :sparkling_heart:

In this stable we had wooden grain bins.
Those would get empty and then you had to sweep the last of the grain to one front corner and balance on your belly to reach down with a scoop.

Yep, I unbalanced and caught myself from falling in on the bin floor with my thumb, dislocating it.
Doctor laughed hearing how it happened.

I laughed too! Lol

I fed my horse a carrot, with the butt end sticking out of his mouth he flung his head up and busted my forehead. 3 pt boxer’s blow to the bone. I put my hand up. Big sticky mess running down into my eyes… no one out at the farm so I put a leg wrap around my head and drove myself to the hospital. Lucky for me the ER doctor was a horse person so she believed the story, but with fresh stitches in my forehead the seats at the bar that night where I worked, back in my 20’s, had a good laugh.

Hello everyone,

I"m new here and glad to be a part of this forum. I’m looking forward to knowing something or sharing something about horses health.

Thanks

A horse beaned me with a carrot, who is going to believe that one?
