Has anyone seen any kind of mask that does not have individual ears but maybe some kind of a mesh bubble type thing (instead of the individual ears) attached to the face mask? He needs a flymask but has an ear issue right now. Any homemade ideas/ alterations would be useful too.
Thanks
Why not buy a mask with ears and remove the one that would go over the bad ear? I would be afraid that anything over the ears( like the mesh bubble, homemade) would bother the ear if it got smashed down on them if horse would rub or roll?
You could use swat or spray on the ear. My horses ears are never bothered by flies so I never used ear fly masks.
I love the equivisor design for how it keeps the mask off the eyes. I use the no ear one as my mare violently head rubs if her ears are both sweaty and covered. It would look silly but I can completely envision an ear halo that could keep ears protected but untouched. I certainly haven’t seen anything in the market though unfortunately.
Thats a good name for what I need- an ear halo. He has medication on one ear that makes it sore but unable to put mask on. Bad timing -fly season is here.
Keep suggestions coming, if you have any. Thanks
I’ve cut out the ear covers on
stretchy masks that I otherwise like.
It’s just too hot here.
My gelding hated, truly despised, ears on fly masks. He had the entire mask off within about an hour. I tried a few tricks suggested by the manufacturer, but in the end they said cut them off. They make them without ears, which saved about $3-4. I figure I saved about $50 over the years. That was worth about 3 bags of grain.
