Update: Don't waste your time! Dover tent sale in Charlotte NC

Update: went this am and it wasn’t worth my time! Delivery truck didn’t come in (again this year) and had very little to choose from. What was on sale wasn’t a good deal. Their sale prices are the normal prices for shopping anywhere else. Extremely disappointed I drove for in hour in Charlotte traffic for that!

Dover should be ashamed promoting that sale for a month and having no selection of “sale” merchandise!

Any scoops on what the best deals are? I’m looking at the flyer they sent out and nothing screaming at me 75% off. They really didn’t put very many items in the flyer.
sale is this weekend though!

I personally don’t think Dovers tent sales are worth it. The deals really aren’t that great. I go and purchase some wormer since it’s on sale but that’s it.

They get a huge amount of cheap stuff in. So if you need brushes, lead ropes or flip flops yeah go. But don’t look for high end stuff to be steeply discounted. They hope that while you are buying brushes and lead ropes and saddle pads that you will pick up a bridle or saddle or something else pricey.

The tent sale at the Wellington location the first year was awesome. Like 600$ boots for 100$ awesome.
The other tent sales I have been to have been decent, but nothing like that one. I got a sheepskin acovallo (sp?) pad last time for 75$.

Utterly disappointed in this “sale”

Those things are very hit or miss. In my area, if you’re not there on the first day, you might as well stay home. I went to the one in Rhode Island one year and scored a show coat that was hanging all alone on a rack like it was there just for me. It fit me like a glove. I paid 80 for a $300 coat. In that case, it was well worth it.

The one in Plaistow has, whenever I’ve been, been awesome. Great deals on blankets, breeches, show clothes, riding shirts, tall boots, fly sheets, fly masks, fly spray. They always have cheap wormers, but never the kind I use, so that’s not so helpful.

I have been some years when it’s great and some years when it isn’t so great. The one in Delaware is at the end of August but I am driving through Chantilly, VA on the day the sale starts there so I plan to stop. One year they had a bunch of breeches for $5 so I bought some. Another year there were full seat breeches for $20 so I bought 6 or 7 pairs and they lasted 5+ years. I plan to look for schooling breeches again this year as that set is to worn. I also got a rain sheet for $5 once and wish I had bought more - another horse in the field tore that one up and while my filly doesn’t like blankets, I liked her having that in blizzard like weather (though she really doesn’t need it). We also got jump cups (30 sets or so) for a deal and some other stuff.

It just depends on what they have each year. One year there were a bunch of fly masks on sale but they were all yearling size so that’s a no go. We shall see what Chantilly has in April.

I’m hoping the Chantilly one is good! My first year going and I’m only 5 minutes from the store.

I also went out there last Friday, and was pretty disappointed. The salesperson who was working under the tent did apologize for their tables being less than half full, and said that a lot more sale items were due to arrive later on that night, and that the shipments were late because of the recent northeast winter storm.

I live in Charlotte, so it’s not a major drive for me - but at the same time is not very convenient since I and my horses live on the other side of town. The traffic at Tryon and Nation’s Ford Road is always HORRIBLE … so I keep my visits to Dover at a minimum as it is. This is why I prefer to order things online!!!

The Chantilly spring sale was not worth it but the summer sale is. In the summer is when they get the boxes of stuff that’s heavily discounts, for example expensive tall boots for $100, breeches for $10 etc. BUT you really need to get there first thing the first morning. There is usually a line starting half an hour before it starts and then it’s a mad dash to grab all you can.
