Update on Kevin Babington

Ah, yes. Good old Wally Holly. That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time, thank goodness. I knew him when I was a teenager and his barn was down the road.

As for Freddy Velasquez, if Wally told you to do something, you didn’t tell him no. He was a scary dude.

 Was USEF aware of this? Was he suspended?

Perhaps start a new thread to discuss this and allow Mr Babbington respect on this thread

No “disrespect” intended I am just surprised by the post that was linked.

I hope he recovers quickly. Sometimes when the inflammation subsides, the symptoms caused by a spinal injury improve.

Obviously I don’t know how the exact medical details compare. But Victor Espinoza was hurt very badly on a racehorse last summer, and he was back to winning races in well under a year. So I hope Kevin will be able to make a similar comeback.

Erinmari and midge: imagine our horror to find out that the “group” we sold Dontez to (a truly talented and kind animal) was Freddie. Shame on Andrew Philbrick

From the fundraiser: UPDATE: Kevin is having surgery on his neck at NYU on Tuesday for spinal stabilization.

Tamir: What did Philbrick have to do with it?

This is really not the appropriate place to be discussing someone who has nothing to do with the Babingtons’ situation. Please consider having that conversation in a different thread.

Yes, he was in a very bad way and is now riding again.

Hope springs eternal… hang in there Kevin and family.

Don’t know the details, but Denny Emerson broke his neck and spent time in a halo when he was 70 is still riding and jumping.

I broke my neck in April and just getting back to riding. Best to Kevin. I know what all that feels like. He’ll have to wear a cervical collar for awhile, but he should make, hopefully, a full recovery. My horse caught his feet at the canter and went down to his knees and I went over his head flying in the air

How on earth do you know this with any certainty whatsoever?

Have you ever broken your neck? Not fun. He can move his toes and the MRI is clean. Those are good signs

Victor is a tough guy coming back with 5 percent odds of ever riding

Was this information posted somewhere?

4 posts down from the top of this link. Someone from his farm posted that. Surgery is probably stabilizing the breaks

Nick Skelton as well. He was told he would be lucky to drive again, let alone ride a horse. He came back to get gold at Rio. But by no means an easy recovery.

Best wishes to Kevin and his family.

Thought Nick was a broken back?

Wishing the best for him and hoping for a full recovery. However, his injury has been characterized as a spinal cord injury, not a cervical fracture, so I believe his treatment and recovery will be more complicated than that of a broken neck.
