My friend called Mcintosh today to see if she could get an update on how things are going and they told her they are Hoping it will open after the first of the year but it’s closed now because it is bio-hazardous. (sp?) I guess the river was full of…stuff before it got to Mcintosh and spread it all there.
How in the world do they clean that up?

I heard that too. I am guessing all the sewage that was dumped in the river during the flood landed on McIntosh. Chocomare said Boundary Waters is closed for the same reason. I do not know how you clean it up. I am hosting a trail ride at McIntosh next year, and wonder if it will be safe.
I think the only way it can clean up is for more rain to wash the top layer of “organic matter” back into the river.
Kind of scary what we are doing to our water isn’t it???

REALLY scarey.
Not too too many years ago you could actually drink from that river, swim, eat the fish that came from there…not now. I wouldn’t even wash my hands in it. Have you noticed that some days it has a strong chemical smell? Sad.
If rain is what it takes to clean the land Mcintosh should be getting a good cleaning now.
It has rained buckets and buckets here and it just keeps on.
Just hope it doesn’t keep on and on and the river flood again!
Spotnnotfarm, I don’t Guess they’d let you in unless it’s considered safe. 
Maybe park in the upper parking lot rather than on the river. Surely the water didn’t get that far.

For those in this area who need a place to ride while waiting on Mcintosh and Boundry don’t forget Rooservelt. The trails there are fine but you do need shoes for some of them…the best ones.
Is Roosevelt OK after lots of rain?
1099 & Concord Church are too slick to be safe at all.
Mac Salter’s is good for about 2 hours+/- it’s in Upson County $5 per rider.

I’ve been to Mac’s place. What a nice man he is. I like the other side of the road trails, mt. like.
I’ve never even heard about 1099 or Concord Church…do tell all about them.
Yes Roosevelt is fine after rains and a horse with good feet could do the lake and the creek trail without shoes but you DO need shoes or boots for the overlook, cowboy or coyote trail. There is another trail called the “bridle trail” which I really like but nobody has been riding it and it needs riding and marking. Not a good name for that either, makes you picture manicured wide trails which it’s not.

they have challenging trails (fine for barefoot horses). Lots of change in elevation, bridges, creek crossings etc. But it is dangerous when wet. It is very slick. Last time we rode there after a rain my friends horse went down with her and mine almost went down.

Pnalley I may want to see if I could ride with you at 1099 & Concord. They sound great.
We rode at Talladega today. We have not been there in a year. The trails were VERY slick and mucky. There were a lot of trailers from the West Georgia area. I assume many people are going there since everything around here is closed.

At Salter’s I was told a couple of horses went down at the creek crossing (slippery rocks) so y’all be careful there. We crossed with no problem but there was only two of us and they say it’s when there are enough horses splashing water on the rocks that it gets iffy.
I just spoke to McIntosh and now they may not be re-opening until Spring!!! I am supposed to hold a trail ride there in June and am not sure if it will be ready. Plus, would you feel safe riding there if it has just been cleaned up? Please let meknow your thoughts. I may have to find a new place for my ride:no:
Oh geez. 
I’d plan on moving the ride elsewhere. I just wouldn’t take the risk of them saying “Oh, sorry. We won’t open till July.”
