UPDATE Page 10 (I know you're all waiting by your keyboards to respond!) (I jest.) (Kind of.) Barn worker taking things - what would your expectation be of the Barn regarding consequences?

I will fess up to accidentally grabbing another boarder’s Noble gloves. I thought they were mine Zander fastened them to my helmet to dry. Next day there was a note on the board about missing gloves. I checked my helmets, and yes, two pairs of gloves. I put hers back on her trunk and replied To her note that I accidentally grabbed them and had put Them on her trunk.

Yes, it’s been doing that for me as well! It says “Error - empty response” or something like that.

Me three. The first time it happened I triplicate posted, now I check each time and my reply is there, despite the error message.

Wow, this thread is enlightening. I was raised to not take anything that didn’t belong to me. But there have been times when I inadvertently have (I can assure you there are lots of pens in my house that I didn’t buy).
That being said, I don’t take other people’s tack. I have borrowed whips, crops, and the occasional longe line, but never taken any of those things as if they were mine. I put them back where I was instructed to after use.
I have been in barns where some folks think that if it is out and not labeled it is for public use. I always made a point to ask the BM before using something I KNEW was not mine.
I would not tolerate a dishonest worker in my barn, no matter how “hard” they work. If they are lying about taking tack, who knows what else they will lie about? Did they make sure the horses were all fed correctly? Did everyone have their meds? Who knows.
I have learned a lot about the barn culture since I started 8 years ago, good and bad. I want to start my own place, but some of the things I see and hear make me wonder how some BO put up with the constant headache.
