 Maybe I should try dosing my Demonpony by mixing it into his grain…

Glad Honcho “took his medicine”

I put a few extra goodies in his bucket but nothing excessive. I’m kinda shocked still that he ate it.

Might be worth a try with your pony too!

That would never work with the 1600 pound giraffe. I have tried mixing wormer with any number of things but she can taste “poison” in minute doses. It sure makes things easier when they cooperate and snarf it down.

I was very surprised it worked for Honcho. It sure wouldn’t have worked with my old TB who would turn his nose up at his bucket over an extra grain of salt :joy:

That is wonderful! When we first tried this method with my large pony, I was astonished when he slurped it all up. I kept expecting that one day he’d decide he wouldn’t eat it any more, but he seemed to think it was some kind of treat. I wasn’t going to argue.

I think I may have found a new vehicle to administer pills. My pony was at the vet today and one of the assistants fed him a goldfish (the cracker, not the fish). I thought he would crawl in that guy’s lap. Loved it more than horse food. I wonder if I can shove a Prascend in one of those crackers.

ok now I want to get a small bag of goldfish and see if my 33yo PPID horse will like them enough! He doesn’t truly mind me syringing the pill into him BUT I’d rather he look forward to a treat with it

My kid used to attempt to feed Goldfish to my gelding, but he spits them out. And he generally eats anything offered.

I had struggled for years with syringing anything into his mouth, but I’ve recently been giving him bute prior to farrier appointments as he’s becoming arthritic. I mix with a little bit of water and a squeeze of molasses (like a big blob), and he takes it from the syringe like candy and looks for more when it’s gone. Deworming the other day was a breeze for the first time in 22 years!

So have some hope for your horses with syringe aversions. Maybe they’ll get over it like mine seemingly has. :woman_shrugging:
