Jingles for Shade!
KW jingles for Shade. My Jade had pyometra. She recovered from that but started to have seizures… I am so sorry. I really hope she makes it. Is she staying at the vet’s overnight?
Argh – this rollercoaster is SO rough! I’m pulling for a happy outcome. Hang in there Shade!
I think there are a few breeds that would work, and many that will not. There are standard schnauzers, medium sized but very protective and have the potential to do what you would like, the giants are larger, and a bit more intense. There is a boxer at our barn that would fit perfectly with what you are looking for. Spend time with the different breeds, decide what grooming you are up to. If the dog is going to the barn and out on trails, what type of coat, amount of grooming are you willing to do? And, if you are interested in a parcticular breed, research known health issues so you know what testing to look for.
Also, consider the cost of some purebreds from reliable breeders, older pups, young adults can be more reasonable in price. Older, but young dogs from guide dog training that did not work out will have a ton of training and be reasonable priced. If you have time you could get on a list to adopt one of those. So many things to consider, so many options. It can be fun and overwhelming.
It`s not good news this morning.
Shade has Pancreatitis too. The blood results from yesterday show even higher levels. The vet had to give her a sedative yesterday and she is very quiet today. Nothing so far seems to be working.
The vet wants to give her the 48 hrs on IV treatment. I`m not sure at this point. We are going to go see her tonight, I need to be with her if we decide to euth.
oh no, I am so sorry… poor girl. I hope she is kept comfortable. You know in your heart you will make the right decision. Hugs to you and your family.
More jingles for Shade.
OP, I gotta ask. How did the vet come to this conclusion? Shade has not eaten in a few days. Generally speaking, a dog who has pancreatitis (?sp) has gotten into a high fat food recently that spills them over. The vet that did the spay DID say she had pyo, right?
read my mind, 3dogpack.

Yes, she had pyo. I have the pictures from her surgery.
The pancreatitis was tested by blood on Sunday and it took a couple of days to get the results on the test. The only changes in diet have been from her regular food to the vet diet and I gave her some plain cooked chicken & rice. I have no way of knowing if that did it or not.
hmmm. well, good luck to Shade, still sending jingles!
Thanks threedogpack. I really don`t know anything about pancreatitis or kidney failure.
She has perked up a bit over the day. I am waiting to hear the results from her blood test today. Still not sure what to do.
I’m sure Squish (& maybe Marshfield) will chime in soon.
Usually an ultrasound is needed to truly diagnose pancreatitis. The vomiting over the weekend certaintly fits with failing kidneys. Not that it changes the outcome, but do you know if all her chemistry values were normal at the time of surgery?

Yes her chemistry values were normal before surgery and at that time even the vet said she wasn`t acting at all sick.
Her tongue/mouth and coat look great still. I’m not sure how treatable Acute Renal failure is if caught right away? I know the Pancreatitis can be treated with meds and a careful diet, but with everything else going on???
The vet still thinks there is hope with her. I should have blood results in the next 30mins. We opted to not visit, because the seperation aniexty is so bad. My heart is breaking not having her here. I went to call her to come out with my other dog and couldn’t stop crying.
Not sure if anyone is interested in seeng the pictures. They are graphic, but I’m the type that needs to see and know what is really happening.
I have seen the pictures of my dog’s Fallopian tubes and they looked like sausages, one foot long each and 2 inches in diameter. Terrible. If you can show them, I’d like to see them.
Still jingling for Shade. I truly hope she pulls through.
Ok here are the pictures:
Warning ** they are graphic but do not show the dog, just her uterus, blood and puss.

The balls of puss made it look like a litter of puppies in there.
Okay last update of the day for Shadey.
Blood results show her levels are going down. She is resting and the vet is optimistic that she can still be saved. We are going to give her a chance.
I hope we are doing the right thing.
I will keep jingling for you and Shade.
I’m going to keep jingling too-not to jinx it but she seems like a pretty tough dog!
yes, those pictures look a lot like my dog’s… Jingling loud and clear and since I am about one hour away, I hope my jingles do not lose any strength!!
Let’s hope for a good night for Shade and for you.
