Updated @#8 on -Commander (bred by Logres Farm) jumping 1.55m - photos @ post #18

Edited on November 4, 2011 to clarify, this first post here is from September 26, 2010. Rather than starting a new thread, we just used this one to update what is happening in Commander’s career. Post #8 has the first of several updates from September and October of 2011. Since we finally renewed our Premium COTH membership, we have added photos at post #18.

Got this video today of Commander, in England, going clear http://www.youtube.com/user/BMEQUINE#p/u/0/7NK012QyUq8

And a few others:

Commander is sired by Iron Spring Farm’s Contango out of our foundation mare - Fancy Ruler. We bred Commander and own three generations of his dam line. He is now owned by Mrs. Cilla Humphreys of Surrey England - Mrs. Humphreys also owns the very successful pinto show jumping stallion Utah Van Erpekom. www.utah-van-erpekom.co.uk

We are the typical American breeder, small, with big dreams and limited funds… who sometimes have to rely upon future owners to carry forth the dreams we have for the horses we breed. We are tremendously proud of what Ms. Humphreys has done with Commander.

As an aside, being Pinto breeders sure makes tracking what we breed a whole lot easier than the task is for breeders of the solid horses. We can always pick our guys out of a crowd.

He looks great, Elaine.

Very nice. Congrats.

Nice! I see he is for sale now…

A lovely young horse clearly enjoying his job! He looks strong and enthusiastic, and he makes it look effortless.

Very nice! he’s grown up very well.

He looks great. Congrats!

I decided to resurrect this thread because we received a few more photos recently of Commander, jumping 1.55m in Blenheim. I can’t think of any Pinto Warmblood Stallion anywhere in the world (other than Utah Van Erpekom) who has jumped 1.55m in comptetiton. Commander is also eventing. We are so pround to have bred Commander. He is by ISF Contango out of our foundation mare Fancy Ruler. Commander is still owned by Ms Cilla Humphries of Surrey England (not sure if she has him for sale now or not). I put a new photo of Commander on our Logres Farm Facebook page… http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home

The rider in the photo is Alex Hua Tian.

We are in the process of building a new website so there are photos and video of Commander on two sites: http://logresfarmpintowarmbloods.com
and www.logresfarm.com

and then we have Sandro D… for little folks at the other end of the spectrum… Sandro D can do about 1.10m before he says, “hey, this is work…” We have video of Sandro D jumping with Danielle Veasy, it makes me laugh, but I can’t figure out how to post it.

You need to upload it to Youtube or Photobucket and then post the link.

thanks…

I think Danielle put it on Youtube somewhere. I’ll ask her about it when I see her. She may have decided it was not internet ready. Sandro D has talent, but nothing like Commander, and he’s only been under saddle for 6 months or so. He’s sweet, steady … and polite, but probably not headed to the Olympics any time soon… In one of the passes he knocks down the low vetical before a lovely effort at an oxer… so the video may never see the light of day… Commander is what we’d hoped to produce; Sandro D is more of the toy version of what we were looking for. But on the upside, he’s nice to look at, a joy to be around, and he suits my talent/skill level.

Any breeder who’s been at this a while can tell you that sometimes you get what you bred for (e.g.Commander) and sometimes you don’t (e.g. Sandro D). At the end of the day, both horses have merit.

Here is a BBC interview with Commander’s rider, the Eventer Alex Hua Tian … who rode for China in 2008. http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=274705335883280

Should add, Commander is out of a MMB Oldenburg mare Fancy Ruler, who was entered into the GOV/Old NA Main Mare Book by Dr. Rolland Ramsauer, back in 1995, when there was only one Oldenburg Registry in the USA. Commander is O and Crown branded and received the highest score for movement at his Inspection back in 2004.

Very cool, Elaine! Huge congrats!!

nice young horse, and super to see him doing his job so well, but i’m just a tad confused where the 1.55m jumping is?

these seem like 6yo and foxhunter qualifiers last year, typically 1.20-1.30, which is perfectly respectable for the age. if he is 7 this year, 1.55m would be a big step up (and there are very few 7yo’s ever asked to jump that competitively) but i’m not seeing any fences at that height in these videos. am i missing something?

Would it help you if you looked at the dates of the first posts on this thread… and then scan down to the more recent posts dated from a few days ago (post #8 on 10-2-11). You are correct that the first posts (from aprox a year ago) are of 1.20 -1.30.

The more recent post has a link to the 1.55m effort in Blenheim. To make it easy, go to our new website… http://logresfarmpintowarmbloods.com I put the 1.55m jump photo on the home page.

There is also a thread about Commander here http://dogshownewsnetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1580 which includes the BBC video and a quote from Alex Hua Tian about his expectations for Commander.

About there being very few 7 year olds ever asked to jump 1.55m … I agree, which is one of the reasons I posted about this. As an American breeder, we are proud to have bred Commander, and thrilled that we own several of his relatives, including his half sister - True Ruler, whom we will breed this spring.

yeah… those fb links didn’t work for me, but i saw your one. thank you.

Re: Facebook, for me, the problem with FB is that it keeps changing… I don’t use it enough to keep up with all the changes.

About the photo of Commander at 1.55m, I’ll have to agree with those who’ve said “wow.”

Here is a link to a bit more data on the event:

Oldenburg NA Stallion Commander represents Team China in the Amtrust High Jump at Blenheim, UK

Alex Hua Tian, China’s First Olympic Eventer, rode Mrs Cilla Fagerstrom’s stunning young stallion Commander in the Amtrust High Jump at Blenheim, UK over the weekend for charity. They easily cleared 1.55m before withdrawing. Alex then went fund raising among the crowd. Commander is a seven year-old Oldenburg NA Stallion bred by Logres Farm. Commander is sired by Contango and out of Fancy Ruler.
Congratulations to the breeders Dr. & Mrs. Arthur Greenwood!
