I have been away from the forums and came back surprised to see well over 900 posts since the “update” post just a week or so ago. So, forgive me… and I apologize if this has been broached, and if it has - please scroll past and ignore.
But has anyone broached the topic of what online harassment really means legally? One only need look at Gamergate, etc, to know that Law Enforcement does not care if you feel you are threatened. It is troublesome and problematic. We don’t really have a definition for what constitutes a threat.

As far as punishment? Very little. It totally depends on what you’re doing online. Run a kitty porn site and the FBI or police comes knocking. Call someone a name, nothing. Stalk someone? It has to become in person or over phone.
Given the right set of circumstances something can be done if the act warranted it, jurisdictional issues weren’t a thing, damage was substantial and your attorney was a hungry dude and you had lots of $$$$ to spare. None of it applicable here.
Well, point proven! Level of your crime and other factors are considered. My point is, something that is clearly a crime becomes “not a crime” because it happens in a digital space. Gamergate proved that. And I wonder whether Lauren’s defense could use the same nonsense defense. It would be nonsense. But I wouldn’t fault her for trying.
Using electronic means to harass online is one thing but I’m thinking once the parties are in physical contact as well the game changes. Now I’m just guessing but I’m thinking it becomes more like aggravated harassment is harassment using a phone. It moves into physical space. Things like CPS coming, building violations, yelling, surveillance all move in the physical realm.
As much as I wish this was directed at a certain unreliable narrator, no. It is an honest question posed in good faith.
Yet also someone who is so trustworthy that both sides feel that they can tell them their thoughts, because they claim to know the whys of everything too and that they talk with both sides.
