Upperville - Class Times, Etc

Hi - West Coaster here spectating at Upperville in June! Attending with a NoVa local but non-equestrian “civilian” and am trying to schedule various outings around classes I want to see (primarily Thursday - Saturday in Parker ring). Questions: I can roughly calculate class times based on number of trips, but do they run on time? Does the day typically wrap up at a certain time? Is ring schedule on Horseshowsonline interface reliable/accurate? Anything else to know? Thank you so much!

I’ve never tracked anything on horseshowsonline, but the main hunter ring runs on time. Believe me, I know it, they get the amateurs going at 7:30am on Friday, bright and early! Snooze you lose (and odds of winning are slim to none anyhow, but that goes without saying). Enjoy!

I’ve found the horseshowsonline times to be fairly accurate in past years, but I would still plan to get there a little earlier than the estimated start times. Upperville.com has a live feed, so you can also check in on what class is going at any given time.

Your NoVA local will undoubtly be familiar with this—and it may sound familiar depending on where on the West Coast you live—but be sure to leave extra time for traffic. This is especially true if you’ll be staying East of Dulles Airport / Rt 28 (closer to DC).

Thank you both! Will be staying close by fortunately - any tips on parking on the show grounds (e.g., will it be a really long walk if we don’t arrive early in the early morning)?

All the spectator parking is on the jumper (north) side of 50, but the horse/pedestrian crossings to the hunter side are well controlled by the county sheriffs. It’s a bit of a walk, but shouldn’t crazy during the week and it’s pretty flat.

I would be prepared for rain though, it’s been a wet week and the 10-day looks like the trend of afternoon storms and showery days is carrying on next week. Boots that can handle the mud will be very helpful, it can get mucky in spots.

Understatement. Lol.

I only got stuck once leaving the vendor parking in the last few years, fortunately I was able to rock the car loose and didn’t need to flag down a tractor :joy:

Boots as in Hunter wellies, or more like paddock boots? LA had massive winter rains this year but not DC-area summer showers…

Waterproof. Wellies, Dubarrys, River boots, Bean boots.

I’ve gotten away with Blundstones with a spray-on waterproof treatment, but I spent most of my time in a vendor tent on the really rainy days. If your paddock boots are proven waterproof treated, you may get away with it.

Do you have waterproof hiking shoes, like Keen, Merrell, Oboz? That might be a more versatile thing to pack [if you haven’t left for VA already].
