Upperville Jump 4 Fun

This looks like such cool idea! What I’d give if they would do a hunter version on the other side…

Hunters, jumpers, and reining on the left coast. Typically they run a few during the winter months.

Weirdly the page can’t be found anymore?

The No Show?

There’s also a Facebook if you search on No Show.

If you go to the Upperville main page, there is a working link there.

I think it’s more about the fact that Upperville as a prestigious show grounds only hosts 2-3 shows a year - and Upperville itself is usually not accessible to anyone who jumps lower than 1.0 or 3’ on either side. Does the No Show show grounds have just one or two rated shows a year, same concept? (Forgive me, I’m an east coaster and haven’t heard of this…I mean no snark, just truly curious!)

This is a first I’ve seen that Upperville is creating an accessible show for some riders to get the chance to ride at such a historic venue that rarely hosts events!

They run a medley of shows. Maybe 15 big USEF shows, a few county HJ shows, starting to run some western. So more accessible than Upperville.

The No Shows are quite nice— they use the A show jumps and the big ring that often hosts GP and medal finals, offer free food, and the only fees are the class entries.

The Upperville fees are $70 before you even step foot in the ring (grounds fee and office fee)

Sure, but (using 2021 prices) to do one schooling jumper class at the actual show for a non-usef member would cost them $285 without a stall (minus $75 for member; plus $275 for stall but minus $50 grounds fee), versus $110 for the unrecognized day (no stall, no membership required). And, as mentioned, the grounds don’t get used much. It’s a good inviting step for someone almost ready who might show there for real in the future.

Well I’m excited! I was planning on going to upperville this year anyways, but now maybe I can get the green horses to come along and play for a day too.

I might go! I went to Brass Ring at Devon last year but have been forced to accept that my current crop is more of the jumper variety. I love the ‘cheaper price at the big venue’ concept.

Hmm, just realized it is a clear round show. That’s kind of lame.

There’s going to be a ton of entries. There is no way in hell to jump them off, especially at those heights. An optimum time jump off would take forever, and a speed one would be terrifying.

$70 is just the office fee. If you’re shipping in, like I will be, it’s another $50. Plus an ambulance fee, and the USHJA fees.

If I had a jumper, I’d seriously consider the Jump 4 Fun instead.

I think the point is that it’s “for fun” - a fun opportunity to get to show at Upperville for those of us that can’t afford it or don’t have the horse that does 1m+. Since it’s basically a schooling show and schooling rounds, I think it all running Table II makes it no pressure and enjoyable. And hey, maybe I’m in the minority, but I’d be thrilled to get an “Upperville” blue for my clear round!

Exactly, @blondewithchrome! I’d be happy with a hunter version just to get pics of my horse “under the oaks.” The odds of us ever being at the real Upperville level are, er, minimal.
