I like Anthropologie as much as the next girl, but sounds like big changes are coming to Devon. The part that makes me really raise my eyebrows is the part about taking care of the horse show parking lot.
Boo…there goes my free super-close parking for Devon We’ve lucked out the past 2 years for Saturday and Sunday.
If they’re building a better hotel very close to the show, sign me up:yes:
What’s the projected timeline for this? I’m sure the parking lot will still be there next May.
Makes you nervous, they they say the august Devon Horse Show!
I realize it is an article, but that seems a strange thing to get wrong.
Interesting. Glenn Senk, who rides with Scott Stewart, is one of the partners in Anthropologie/Urban Outfitters, so I’m surprised he’d do this to a show that his horses have shown and won at.

Unless something changed, it appears he has been out of that job since January 2012.
It’s not an undeveloped space that’s being proposed for development. It’s a big farm and garden center called Waterloo Gardens. That seemed to me to be struggling the past few years. I don’t really even remember if people parked there. They probably did. I suspect having a fancy hotel complex right next door will be good for the show. But at any rate, it’s not like we’re losing some rolling undeveloped turnout areas. One business is apparently going to be replaced with another. Losing some parking… it’s not like we had enough anyway. The reality is the lot and shuttle (and Acme). There just isn’t enough open space to accommodate all the parking. Hasn’t been enough since I was a kid.
That’s going to be a tall building for the area. I can’t think of anything else that tall around. And I wonder if it’ll work. The idea is to create a “downtown?” It’s a totally car-dependent area. I don’t quite understand how that’ll work. I question whether there’s enough business to keep this afloat, but maybe it’ll draw business. I dunno though, there’s plenty of shopping on the main line already.
Glen Senk left Urban/Anthropologie at least a year ago. I think he went to David Yurman? Or a makeup company (Elizabeth Arden?)? I can’t remember. I know he’s no longer with Urban/Anthropologie. Glen’s horses have won everywhere. If winning at a show makes it a pet show for him, probably every show would be? He did used to be from PA. I dunno if he’s now moved.
Urban/Anthropologie has long been a friend of Devon/supporter (with a close connection to the show). Among other connections, they built our souvenir booth from scratch.

Ah, yes, David Yurman—you’re right.

By “august” I believe they meant grand, dignified.
I don’t think the 5 stories will get past the zoning around here. That would be the tallest building for sure. Devon does not have a “downtown” like Wayne and other nearby towns have so I’m sure they would like to try to create one and that site is close to the train station, which is key.
Waterloo Gardens had been suffering for years due to some ill advised expansion efforts by the heirs. It was a shame to lose it - great place to buy plants.
I moved away in 2008, so chances of me being wrong here are very high. Didn’t Waterloo Gardens go out of business not too long ago?
With that said, I still cannot, for the life of me, picture where they would build this facility… Maybe I’m afraid of change, but I’m not excited about this “proposal.”
Yes, the Devon Waterloo did go out of business a few years ago. The Exton location is also closed now too.
I think what they have proposed is going to be very tight on that parcel. But it is bigger than it appears to be. There are buildings that were never part of the retail operation.

5 stories? That’s the part I can’t picture.
