USA Jumping team

Lexington, Ky.- The United States Equestrian Federation has named four athletes to the Hermès U.S. Show Jumping Team for the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Additionally, one horse-and-athlete combination has been as the Traveling Reserve, and five horse-and-athlete combinations have been named as alternates.

The following horse-and-athlete combinations have been named to the Hermès U.S. Show Jumping Team for the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (in alphabetical order):

Lucy Davis (Los Angeles, Calif.) will ride Old Oak Farm’s Barron
Barron is a 2004 Belgian Warmblood gelding.

Kent Farrington (Wellington, Fla.) will ride Amalaya Investments’ Voyeur
Voyeur is a 2002 Dutch Warmblood gelding.

Beezie Madden (Cazenovia, N.Y.) will ride Abigail Wexner’s Cortes ‘C’ or Simon
Cortes ‘C’ is a 2002 Belgian Warmblood gelding.
Simon is a 1999 Dutch Warmblood gelding.

McLain Ward (Brewster, N.Y.) will ride Sagamore Farms’ Rothchild
Rothchild is a 2001 Warmblood gelding.

Rothchild is also Belgian. So if Beezie rides Cortes C, three of the four members of the US team will be mounted on Belgian horses.

Belgian horses tend to have a huge amount of SF.

It’s interesting to note that 2 out 3 of those Belgian horses are SBS and only 1 is BWP.
But it’s a very small sample to draw any conclusion.

andy, what do you know about Elegant de L’ile? He has only sBs offspring, but is damsire of Barron.

very nice to see the list!

Kudos to the US team and the alternates too.

Viney, You mean damsire of Rothchild, Barron’s damsire is Nabab de Reve.
Elegant and Nabab are both SF.

Here is a google translation of an excerpt from a website:
Elegant de l’Ile is the story of a stallion “unfashionable” because too light. André Marbaix a stallion owner in our village whose main passion was and is the workhorse, proposed this stallion full of athletic ability. He also owned at the time other breeding stallions sBs (more “full-bodied”) whose sporting qualities were less exploited. “No fashionable” until one day … the equestrian world agrees to change or, should I say, bend ?! Because yes, sBs published in January 1995, the article below that the presentation contains these words: "the most beautiful posthumous tribute we can pay to Elegant de l’Ile. On that date, indeed, Elegant is not the last 9 years, but his last son as Bon Ami, Babushka Sohan and Bangui del Follée are three international winners.
