USDAA Cynosport World Agility Games

…start in one week. Anyone following? Anyone going? Or know of your trainer’s friend’s exhusband’s sister who might go?

Any good blogs of competitors or spectators attending? Tori Self is attending and has a blog that has posted of a team practice. More blogs: Days of Speed and Slowtime Mondays, Full Tilt Border Collies, Life and Times of Team Whisner. All BCs with the exception of a Sheltie. Phah. That’s USDAA for ya.

I attended the AKC Nationals (I get Invitational and National confused) two years ago when it was at the Lexington Horse Center. Great shopping! Really intimidated me into thinking I can never do this but it turns out I can -at the smurf level.

John Nys who is a Rhode Islander is going with Rush (Paulette Swartzendruber’s Sheltie.) I see him and Paulette all the time at the RI and MA AKC agility trials. Paulette has been battling cancer for the past couple of years and John has been running Rush for her. They are one hell of an agility team and a lot of fun to watch.

Not this year, sadly. My older dog (who I took to Cynosport 2 years ago in Kentucky) is semi-retired, and the baby won’t start competing until this winter. I’d love to think I’ll get him qualified for next year, because I’d like to go to Tennessee, but in reality, he’s probably 2 years out.

I though Tori was going to the FCI Worlds instead of Cynosport? I know when I saw her in July, she said the two conflicted. Sadly, I know a few people who chose not to go to Cynosport this year because of the BSL in Denver. I know I wouldn’t have gone with either of my dogs - my older dog is a medium sized, smooth coated muscular Mountain Cur, and my younger dog is a BC/terrier; both have been accused of being part/full pit bull before.

Thank you for the information. I was mistaken about Tori. You are right, she is on the US team for Worlds. What venue do folks aiming for that level compete in?

USDAA got lots of heat for picking a city with BSL but not enough to make then change the location.

I have two dogs going this year. I’m kinda excited and kinda intimidated at the same time! I haven’t been this nervous since I went Advanced for the first time!

My JRT is qualified for all three tournaments. She’s 8yo, has her P equivalent of MAD and has her Silver Tourney title.

My BC is not young, but this is the first year she’s qualified in anything for Nationals. She has, up until this year, been quite the bar knocker.

If Nationals are on the same weekend next year, I’ll be at the AEC’s! Not a show I can skip.

Is Tracy Sklenar going to be there? Years ago when I first adopted my dog I went to her tiny little shopfront training school for behavior modification classes, then later, agility classes. She’s a great teacher and trainer and now she’s a big deal in agility competing and training worldwide. She had dals then but now has I think a rat terrier and a BC.

The FCI Worlds that just started is an AKC team - so you can’t blame the low variety of breeds on USDAA!

I believe I heard that Tracy was one of those not going to Colorado because of concerns about BSL. Among her other dogs, she has a border/staffy she runs. I think that dog and her border/jack are her currently competing dogs. She is a phenomenal trainer - I got to work with her at a camp this summer, and have been trying to stalk her for more seminars ever since! I’m going to another with her at the end of October. Definitely one of my favorite agility people to work with.

Oh, if you do go see her, if you can, ask her if she remembers Nancy and her black dog Gemma from NJ, around 1999 or 2000. I used to call her dal Pierce “Luscious Butt”. She is great with the dogs and soooo patient with those owners who aren’t very good at following her directions. She says the dogs are easy; it’s the people that are difficult. She helped my difficult adopted dog so much that we were able to take agility classes, which my dog loved.

Congrats and good luck
